Gawd! Spiders give me the willies...
Good points.
I agree, we should be asking stuff like who funded this?
But science (and I guess religion, both being a search for answers and truth) simply boils down to ' your right and a bunch of other guys agree with you'.
So really, academics need to just talk nicer and get more people to agree with them.... Which alot of us 'papered' guys need to work on.
Use more honey beeguy.
Now on another note. BGSH and these 'out there' posts. I used to think that maybe we got ourselves a real 'special' member of the board here.
Then I heard about this book The Tao of Pooh (as in Winney).
...... Keep posting bud.

I would suggest that science is a lot more than getting a 'bunch of other guys to agree with you' – after all, it is science... the pursuit of knowledge and facts by way of proof and evidence.
Although, yes, science in general needs to learn how to better lubricate their results so that their work is able to more effectively penetrate the public domain.

And some would say.
Science is simply your religion.
Good scientists ultimately never say 'this is true',
But say 'this is what we all can agree on is true for now.'
Tonnes of what we hold as scientific 'trues' are either being debunked, or strongly challenged:
- relativity and the speed of light.
- string theory of the universe.
So really.... ( btw, I'm a big fan of science too...) it is just 'we agree, and this is our method of 'proving' we are right.
This reminds me of that Monty Python Burn the Witch scene in the Holey Grail.

I would not say science for me is a religion, but rather a philosophy.
To me what separates religion and science is exactly what you say...
Whereas religion is rigid and seeks by its nature only to look for proof to continue to support what doctrine already exists, (good) science is always happy to be proven wrong, therefore by its nature, the opposite of stagnant.

Which is a problem on this board
I don't think people want to come onto a board like this and be told:
'that their foundational premises on which they postulate their rhetoric on is prima faci fallacious...and furthermore thereto therefore.....bla bla.'
Or
'your wrong idiot'
No one likes to be told this. We got alot of quality people here, they're not big on being talked over and told their wrong.
If yer gonna try to tell/show people they are way wrong, put on your nice guy gloves. I've been guilty of doing this alot too ( booze really dosent help either)
Grey Lynx hit it right on the head..
Gotta do work now for a bit.

Yep, what a joke. It's not the education that gets to you, it's the fact that people might actually know what they're talking about instead of just bleating their same old tune.
"pay your wages" bahahahahaha. You'll find that almost all educated folks work in the private sector.

Welcome to the forum.........lot of exercise needs to happen after hunting season by; jumping to conclusions, beating dead horses, puffing up their chest, going around in circles, stretching the truth (especially on the fishing section) raising their blood pressure and my favorite....pushing their luck and buttons.
A little summary of your post by edit....even though I agreed with it and liked it......not everyone is going to appreciate or handle the sharpness....
Hang around....you may yet be mildly amused....like playing with a puppy.....my flick at condescension or humour.....I am sure you will make the discussions more entertaining....I look forward to it...

Ha! Thank you for the welcome.
I apologize for employing such graphic language...
Must have been all the testosterone in the room rubbing off on me.
I'm often more diplomatic than what I have been so far - I was triggered, and I needed the release. But I swear, I joined this forum with the purist of intentions.
And thanks to you as well, Bessiedog. I'll try to placate the masses if you try to get over your arachnophobia. :-)
So, all's well that ends well? (ish)

How about creating a super mealworm that swims around with the hook and snags perch for you.
Imagine the applications.

What is an educated person Mr. Beeguy?
Is an educated person someone who went to university?
Tell me what university teaches you that makes you superior to the normal taxpaying man.
What does going to university give you that you can come on this forum and think you are morally superior to all the other AO members?
Just because you went to university does not give you the right to insinuate that the members of this AO forum are a bunch of dumb people who know nothing.
I say that it is you that knows nothing more than how to read better than the average person, and walks around trying to pat themselves on the back.
Enough said

One other item Mr. Beeguy:
I am glad you mentioned that us unwashed do not know what we are talking about.
Has Science come to the point where only some people know what they are talking about.
When Science has reached the point where only one group knows what they are talking about, are we really talking about what Science truely is?

Now that would be money and time well spent. Only thing better would be if the worms could tell you where the fish are LOL
