All of my original reloading equipment and supplies came from Nobury Sports in about 1973. Best deal going.Buying supplies to reload 200 cartriges paid for the reloading equipment.

Trail Firearms

Bob decided to stay open until midnite on his last business day.

At midnite, I bought the last two guns Trail Firearms sold before it closed.

I learned alot there.

I miss Klondike and Al Baker. Always had a story for me. I refinished a couple T bolt's for him.

I think I might have had him teetering on the edge of doing that a few years ago.

I thought i had him at a chas show. He had to walk away. But for a moment, I think i almost had him

I searched out a lot of shops when I was coast to coast trucking. Loved Frenchy's...Barrotto's...Bashaws...Epps, LeBarons..LeverArms...a bunch of little corner store/gunshops in rural Ont. I got to visit them all on a reg basis. Even had an inside man at Bomac who'd let me shop while I was there in Stittsville.

Frenchy's was a great spot. Made a few friends there. I happened to call them one day....just before I went out to Cowtown again....they told me of a fire they had, and that they would have a big water damage/fire sale coming up. I got there just as they reopened after the fire.
I wound up getting a pair of Wby Lazermarks, a Sako 85, 2- Win XTR pump 12's, and a nice Win 70 XTR / 30-06, Ruger Single Six and a Mark II Target 22. All had a small bit of rust and a bit of finish off one of the Wby's......only 2700 bucks OUT THE DOOR !!
Watched WSS get started....became friends with Brad & Russ B, Janice...great family.

I sure miss that old travelling time...

Keep on him. Edmonton could use a good store especially for the used stuff.

This one struck a nerve, I was working at pumping station by the Hat when I bought my first real rifle, a Win featherweight in .270 Win. about 1978 or so and I do remember Baptiste being a little ornery.

One more: Hagar's Desperado Gun Shop in Edmonton.

I loved the weld marks on his gun safe.

And remember when Hagar had the hole in wall on the south side. That is where Bob from Trail started working with his dog "Dusty"

Hagar called Bob's dog "Filthy".

What was the name of that shop by the Riviera Hotel? Did not stay open very long.

He used to sell McCraken bullets.......really good varmint bullets...at least in .243.

I went to school with Terry McCracken. We hunted deer and pheasants on his family farm near Carbon. One Christmas his brother Dwayne gave him a Rockchucker loading press. Terry got his start making bullets with that press and shortly after founded McCracken Precision Bullets. Terry died young

WW Arcade both Jasper Ave and Stony Plain road locales and of course what we used to call gun alley downtown Custom, Klondike, K&S, Firing Line two others what a great place for a couple of hunting crazed teenage boys to spend a afternoon with a very patient father in tow to drive them there. LOL.

That would take you into Braeside.

Try three left turns.

Directions to The Shootist in St Albert.

North on St Albert Trail to the bottom of the hill. Turn Left at the lights, drive one block, turn Left at the lights, dive one block and turn Left at the Post office..At the end of the block which is a dead end there is Epcor on one side and a Small office building with a Dentist office and "The Shootist"

In the summer it is best to be early because all of the people that think they get a good deal and good product at the St Albert market are taking up the street parking.

Ken is usually open 9.00 -12.00 on Saturdays..and 9.00-5.00 during the week, however his hrs can vary a bit.

Bought my first new to me .22 Cooey from Ernie Black at Black's Cycle and Sporting Goods in Dauphin, MB in the 1950's. Spent loads of $$$ there over the years. My family still there still spends loads of $$$ there. First new bike came from there also. The shop is still on Main Street South in Dauphin, same location, now owned and managed by Ernie's grandson and his wife. We stop in there every time we go back for a visit. The big box stores can not hold a candle to the knowledge and atmosphere of this third generation family-owned and operated store. Mr. Black opened the store as a bicycle shop after he returned from WWII.

I remembered Don's Gun Shop on 63 ave & 49th street. My nephew bought a real nice British 303 from there with a rib going along the barrel. They had fair prices.

Have you got any 'from behind the counter' classic stories to share with us Dick?

Classic storybook family biz story!

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business should write that one up for their magazine.

My first new Rifle, .22 caliber, cooey model 600 was bought for me by Mom @ WW Arcade, 38 yrs ago.........how time flies. I think the smaller shop were filled with more personable knowledgeable counter staff then, imho!

I loved don'ts gun shop. I also use to ride my bike or walk to see don almost once a week. I bought a Remington semi auto 30-06 from him after saving my $$ for a couple of years. Still have the rifle.

Don was awesome.

A close second was WW arcade both west end and downtown locations
