Safe isn't the term I would use.
There might be some ice though.
It has been very warm the last couple days/nights.

in perfect conditions maybe an inch of ice at current standing. In my humblest humble opinion, I would not venture onto the ice in Southern Alberta for at least a cold spell of 7 days below zero, night and day. There are inconsistencies on the wider bodies of water that is making for ugly ice. I'm talking prairies and low lying foothills lakes.
Thoughts from the mountain fishers and Edmonton folks welcome.

It was like that last year too, I don't think it turns over that early normally so I'm assuming it's caused by wind. I lucked out about 4 years ago when it stayed crystal clear for the first ice, was awesome. Since then it has always seemed to stay cloudy from mid Nov to end of Dec.

Drove by Winagammi Lake yesterday for work, and noticed snow across the entire lake. Pretty sure it's still very thin...but it's getting closer!!

Here in southern alberta around the bow island area, a local pond I fish the ice is around 4 inches thick and clear I just got back from checking it. Forty mile, grassy and yellow lake are all wide open in places and ice is 2 inches thick at best around shore, gonna need another two weeks for the big lakes atleast.

I was just going over a series of weather websites and a snoweater may be coming through Calgary and south. Which would be awesome. Some winds are going to be in the 40 thru 60kmh range, which will eat and melt in no time,, allowing for those overnight cold temps to get the ice thicker. I didn't look for anything north of Cowtown.

Pcr ice
We fished PCR around noon today, 2" of ice. There was no open water under the bridge, we fished at the boat launch about 50' from shore. We caught a few "trophy" sized 9-10" walleyes .

Portion of sylvan froze right over yesterday . Wall of mist for most of the day, then looked back the mist was gone and lake was white to the far shore.

Went out to a little perch resevoir just outside Medicine Hat, had 5 inches of good solid ice. A lot of the small lakes and reservoirs around here should be good or getting close to having good ice!

McGregor forms poorly,,, if I were chancing the ice right now it would be 100 yards south of the boat launch,, but the early sketchiest ice at the best fishing is off the north dam. If you were super gutsy, you could drill your hole no more than 5 or 6 feet out, then fish with a regular rod from the rocks. it's only been 5 1/2 days of poor ice making conditions. Had we not got snow, the ice would be perfect. I'm hoping the next 5 days eats snow with decent overnights forming good ice.
A plank or a long light ladder would be needed to access the ice as it takes a long time for ice to form along the rocks. With the west south westerly winds, there should be a pressure ridge forming up against it pretty quick, which can be dangerous, even for fishing in two feet of water.
