Been getting out with my daughter. I love it when my kids (adults) make the time to get out with me. Things are certainly more chatty when my daughter tags along.
Fished McGregor and CV the last few outings. Water levels are typical for this time of year. ie good. As stated, water is clear.
Weed growth and water temps are a bit behind schedule.
Fishing has been good ..... mostly pike.

Default Pike - First Time

My two sons(11 and 9) want me to take them to try to catch some pike. This will be their first time. My youngest is a huge fan of Jeremy Wade and his River Monsters show... he has watched every episode, and wants so badly to catch a pike. so im heading out this Saturday to see if we can get into something. Doesnt even need to be big, and it is all from shore, as i have no boat. Any tips on where i may have the best chance of catching something? I was thinking either Pine Coulee, Twin, or Clear. I have fished all of these from shore before with decent luck. But it has been at least 6 years since i have fished them..maybe things have changed since.

I think from shore Clear would be your best bet. Lot's of pike and the boys should be able to hook up. Was at Twinn on Tuesday and it was very weedy from shore so it may be quite frustrating for new fish kids. That being said the fish were hitting hard at Twinn but I was just outside the weed beds at the far so. end closer to the boat launch. If you decide on Twinn then go to the north end, turn at Parkland and take the road to the end. it will end at the lake and there should be some spots for the kids to fish from shore.

Good Luck

My wife & I fish most of these reservoirs with our boat, plenty big enough for 4 adults & your boys. We've got extra life jackets to fit everyone, see if we could catch them a pike. Wedding Saturday but headed somewhere Sunday if it's truly not +10 & raining. Otherwise we'll get together if our schedules match. Take care!

Good news compared to last year

Not sure they told the full story. Chin res. holds the largest volume of water in the SMRID is only 55%, Shurburn 53%, 40 Mile Res. 51% These are big reservoirs right in the middle of the heaviest use of water. The local potato farms are still very worried.
