Double digit inflation now seems a certainty. It'll be tricky to fuel that fire and then be able to douse the flames before the entire farm is burned, but it seems like the only way. You can't pay back $16T U.S. dollars....and counting. (If Obama gets back in, it'll be $20T at least.)
I agree that you can pay back $16T pesos but probably can also repay $16T of something in between.

What's it going to be if Romney gets in?

Fair point but have you noticed the culture on the street down there these days? Entitlement has become the way of life. Even the suggestion of scaling them back can cause a riot. Cut that spending at this point and you open a huge can of unrest.
I don't think any politician is going to have the balls (and support) to go there at this point.
Which is why I bet Obama (sadly) takes the election.

I hope you're not right. I am an incurable optimist.
BTW, I just noticed that Israelis didn't get the memo about Obama being their friend. 45% prefer Romney as President of the U.S. to 29% for Obama.

We may look back on this election cycle - no matter who wins - as the beginning of the end for much of the U.S. mainstream media. I hope so. Pravda never did the Russians any favours by hiding the truth and they are not doing Americans any favours, either.

The Pakistani's hate Obama. too. I figure it may be the 284 drone strikes they got the last year or so. Maybe they feel that Romney would be the more benevolent dictator.

As long as we have our SUV parked in the driveway of our suburban McMansion and Big Brother graces the evening airwaves, we're happy to remain oblivious and not care as the titanic sinks.
I would love to further poll that 72% and ask them what Obama has done over the past 4 years that they support. The answers would be downright hilarious I'm sure.

Oh.
So the world can't survive without the US being top dog?
Why can't other countries step up to fill the gap?
What did we all do before WWII when the US was far from being a superpower?
Sorry just because everyone has gotten used to the US being the powerhouse ut has been since WWII doesn't mean that we're all doomed if they aren't running the show.
I'm sure a lot of folks felt the same way when Great Britains Empire started to falter... but here we are... and they seem to be doing OK too.
That idea does prove that the propoganda and fear mongering is working though .

The earth will still spin with a toppled US economy... but the short term (decade at least) ramifications of that reality would be nasty... for us as Canadians... and for everyone else that relied on that economy for their own economic prosperity and quality of life.

Will a transfer of power from the US to China be as smooth as the Britain to US transfer?

Sadly, I don't doubt that is true.
Some of them have sneaked into Alberta at night when nobody was looking and now they vote here. We do what we can to keep them uncomfortable so they don't settle in.

The "top dog" spot must be filled.....just like a pack of dogs needs to have leader. It is a power vaccuum that will be filled and there will be he!! to pay until it is sorted out.
Which country do you have in mind as an alternative to the U.S.?
(don't say "the U.N." .....fair warning... )

No matter who wins the election hopefully one of the two can get the U.s.A back on track, people need jobs, debt needs to be paid and trading to China needs to be fair because China uses the U.s.A and they love it and i hate when China loves things.

Yes, we would believe.
There was an article today about a teacher in Ottawa planning on taking some high school students to somewhere in the U. S. to go door to door for Obama..
They have no idea.

Really!!????? Tell you what. I will bet you what ever you want, that Obama will not run again in four years. Let's make it something humiliating, and funny for everyone else to witness on here.
And hopefully all others will not chime in till the deal is done.

It makes me cringe every election, the calibre of candidates that the electorate gets to chose from, both here and in the USA.....

I wanted to see Newt Gingrich win the nomination. The debates would have been a blood bath. But too many people believe the President should be their moral compass and Gingrich is a sinner.
Latest polls show it's going to be a barn burner.

Well, golly, I'm trying to think if there were any terrible events before WWII, you know before there was USA as superpower. Hmmm, geez, drawing a blank. I guess I stand corrected. There just weren't any countries doing anything nefarious leading up to WWII that I can think of. Nope, not one single country running roughshod through Europe even. Or rounding up people to burn in ovens or anything like that. Guess I was just falling prey to fear mongering. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I feel much better about the second country in line becoming a superpower now. (whether that's Russia or China...either or, I'm now convinced that all will be peachy if the USA goes down).

Woops, those last two links are from a long time ago, and slipped in there, they have nothing to do with anything.
Or heck, how about the UN, they would be an awesome choice. http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/40543
And Canada doesn't really rely on the USA for any significant part of our GDP or anything. Not even 75%. http://www.investorsfriend.com/Canad...%20exports.htm
Sorry for the tongue in cheek reply, but seriously, of course we could survive without the USA as a superpower or an economic powerhouse. But it would sure be tough on the world, and Canada in particular for many, many years to come, until we established new trading partners, had other NATO countries build up their military to guard against countries like Russia or China etc. (which would not be cheap to do...bye bye social welfare programs)
It's in our best interest that the USA remains top dog. The only other choice which could be better would be Canada. and sorry to say...that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
PS: When Britain faltered and relinquished their top dog status, which country fulfilled that roll? A communist dictatorship? No, I think it was the USA. An even better choice, given they were replacing a truly imperialistic country (Britain).
So I have to ask...and please don't take any offence, I don't mean anything personal or anything, I'm just really curious...did you get beat up by an American or something? JK...

Romney has made millions. Why would he want to change anything?
If he thinks politics is like business he is in for a terrible shock. Politicians cant fire people and put a better guy in they have to work diplomatically with the crew they have.
With the condition the US is in I dont really know why either one of them wants the job.
Neither one is going to be able to do much in an election this close. The real winner will be the one that loses the election.
