http://wildfire.alberta.ca/wildfire-...Sep04-2017.pdf Looking at this map it looks like a big closure. I done see any rain in the next few weeks but it looks like all of 402 and all of porkies is closed. Ghost is going to get pounded extra hard by all the displaced hunters this year.

Yet the north half of the province seems OK...hopefully everyone can find a place to hunt without tripping over each other.
Please rain!

We talked with conservation officers and they both said that the castle wild land provincial park and the castle provincial park were closed, but north of the pass was still open. I ask them why was it not closed at the beginning of August as it was just as dry and this was their reply "we wanted the general public to enjoy the out doors" to which I replied "are hunters not the general public". I also had mentioned that there are a lot less people using the forestry during hunting season then users using the forestry during camping season. Sorry that's how it is. Our next stop was to the provincial building in pincher creek and was told a totally different story about the closures. Everything from chain lakes to Watertown including the porkies.

I'm thinking around 8 years ago , no immediate fire , but super dry. , there were seismic and construction projects going on in the forestry. Notice came out and contractors had only hours to get out. Shell was allowed to have permitted maintenance to operate the wells , nothing more. Nothing shut in , just minimal activity.

unbelievable. lets not inconvenience certain users till after the long weekend when we know their usage drops way off. and the balls the CO's showed using the language they did. yes the general public(less the ATV's) does anyone know who we put the pressure on to have this lifted as soon as it is safe to do so? if they have their way they will keep it closed till the end of general season.

Thanks for this, I was going to go out scouting again this weekend for rifle, I likely will not bother now. Hopefully things are all good and open come Mid Oct - Mid Nov when I start booking time off work.

Year of the lost creek fire (2004? can't remember for sure). Allowable activity was extremely limited. But you are right, notice was short. Lasted quite some time if I recall. Headed to Rocky for another shell project while waiting for the south country to be opened up again.
See a big billboard set up this morning on the 752 letting everyone know of the hummingbird area shutdown

Some wells have been shut down today and tomorrow to minimize pipeline maintenance and flaring. Additional water trucks are being added and on stand by. Their surveillance has increased to be more aware. The Fish and Wildlife are handing out passes in Pincher, the Pass and Calgary and are looking for those passes to gain access to the Castle, including to the oil and gas folks..

Lost creek was in 2003, and you could still hunt that year in the forestry. In 2007 the forestry was closed for about a month and a half. They opened the forestry up 2 weeks into hunting season.

What does bother me however, I see this as things to come in the entire province. As more and more areas get labeled and designated parks, wildland areas etc. it becomes easier, and im sure will be more frequent, the govt will increase restrictions and closures to the public for various reasons. Look at the list in the above link, Areas closed due to bears and berries?? Bear in area this time, dry conditions next time, to much rain so trails are vulnerable. Whats to come? Closed to not disrupt Ungulate breeding in certain areas? A not so suttle way to weed out what some see as undesirable use of the public land. I dont where a tin hat, but unfortunately this is not a conspiracy theory, but very realistic scenerio

I agree

Just saw on fish and wildlife enforcement Facebook page. Area around Sphinx trail south of Hinton is now closed due to a sow grizz with cubs entered a remote hunting camp. Im assuming that this isn't a park being there was a hunting camp.

There should never be a closure for this reason. This bear never attacked anyone and was more of a fly by.

This is just the type of situation I was referencing earlier. Anyone here been to YAHA Tinda, or maybe The Willmore? I'm sure most who have could imagine if all it took was a grizzly encounter to close an area........

Not hearing anything from the DP's that thought making a park would be a wonderful thing and that hunting will never be shut down.

Well then it must be all good, if the government says so.. lol..
The next two weeks are showing <1 mm of rain, so I'm thinking things won't be getting any better down south anytime soon.. The smoke in town is a lot thicker this morning and you can see the haze against the street lights..

Looks like the Sept 4 8:00 pm version is no longer in effect but the updated 10:03pm version is.

So the closure is still in effect, or not? Confused by some of the information I am seeing.
If it is closed there are 'passes' available? I would assume this wouldn't apply to hunting, or could they?

The whole of crown land in Southern Alberta has been closed down. Nothing to do with whether its a park or or a PLUZ.

Its odd that things seem to be changing hourly, yet the Minister has not changed the September 4th order?
