The sturdy (almost bullet proof) cardboard/laminate tags used in many US states would be a big improvement.
When you harvest game, you must immediately notch (cut out) one edge of the tag with the date, and the opposite side with the month.
The only way this tag can be reused if the hunter can get his game home, turn around, bag another animal on the same day.
Pretty straight forward and fool proof.
I read that in some states you can affix the tag to the animal OR EVEN put it in your pocket until you get home, as long as that tag is with the animal, and you stay with the deer.
These tags have a visible bar code the retailer (whoever issues your tag, like Cabela's records against your licence and what species, or zone that tag is for).
It also has an additional embedded filament (security feature) between the layers of paper (or plastic).
This filament has an electronic serial number which does not match the serial number printed on the ticket and is hidden in the computer system and registered when they issue your tags and the information from the retailer is submitted to SRD in their database.
If anyone figures out how to match a 9 digit serial number, against another 9 digit serial number (probably a billion to one chance or worse) they deserve to keep the illegal deer !!!!!!
These tags are under $1 each.
so ...... what's the problem here ......... seems like a no Brainer to me.
