What is amazing to me is just how widespread the trend of Chinese international students is. I thought it was more a Canada thing and maybe west coast US but online there have been people reporting large Asian student populations across the globe. And many of those students were home for the holidays and just returned to studies. Not sure if a Pandemic virus could draw it up any better.

The lack of hard info just makes this thing feel so weird too. Like how could China take the huge steps they have with thousands of disclosed cases and us not hear something more concrete by now? I get that they are secretive but the cat is kinda out of the bag. What does secrecy do at this point other than not preventing them from getting proper support from outside? Could this be largely a result of miscommunication by Chinese officials then panic which leads to more panic and maybe some incorrect assumptions piled on that. "oh I assumed because you asked me to lock things down that you had confirmed your info first, dohhh" kinda thing. Chinese citizens aren't exactly immune to panic either. They are generally pretty germophobic. I wouldn't put it past China to create a complete cluster F over a relatively minor issue because of internal commie politics.

And then if this turns out to be relatively minor I really worry about the apathy that would create for the next time something pops up. I'm thoroughly confused at this point.

Out of the 80 or so who have died, does anyone know the ages?

As perspective, Influenza kills about 3500 Canadians per year

I am also curious about the nationality of the victims. What if it is only celestials who die from the virus?

Also something to consider is how much we rely on Chinese manufacturing. What are the knock on effects of a prolonged shutdown of Chinese manufacturing. The potential ramifications go far beyond the sickness itself.

Wow... I just can’t even Imagine the turmoil going on in good peoples lives over there, what would we do if all of a sudden your not allowed to leave, get shot if you try and can’t leave your homes.. what about no time to stockpile grub or waters..just what would we do.. sheer panic would be normal response I suppose
Makes a fella think about all the chaos those good family’s are facing... scary, I’d say so!

Yup. I have to assume a lot of these affected people live in poverty, on complete lockdown, no income, no food reserves, can't buy PPE if they could even afford it. I am sure we are only getting the tidbits of what it is actually like over there right now. My sympathy is with them. We have it pretty good here.

Remember people asking what would you do if everything collapsed.
Well here is an example of what people will do.

They’ve done it before to maintain power...

I can only imagine the struggles a lot of these people have had to endure. To be eating bats and all kinds of crazy crap just for protein to survive. Really makes you think. I'm sure they wouldn't if they didn't have to. Doing what they have to just to survive

Might make the food taste better, or cause it to explode, but likely would do very little to affect the virus.

Simple solution. No travel in or out. First step towards isolating the virus is to isolate the carriers.

Agreed. I'm impressed with the response to lock down 50 million people. The carriers in other counties, couple here and there, that can be managed. If they didn't lock down, jeebus. It's already bad enough

Just a quick question. Are you a doctor? Microbiologist? Infectious disease physician? Pathogen specialist?

Genuinely interested in where your expertise lies?

And?

This may kill that many in a week. Thats 182,000 'per year' btw.

Once / if it takes off, that many per day? Thats 1,277,500 'per year'

Your numbers mean nothing. The 80 you are talking about died this week, from this strain. When it mutates, if you have been watching Bloop's numbers are going to make it a very significant number.

I do not think that is why they do it. They have cats and dogs and beef, pork and fish hanging in the same markets, the people eating the exotic crap are doing it because they think it is special in some way. Fugu? Certainly not required, but in Japan they pay huge money for it.

You need to learn basic math.

Nothing at all to do with 'fear monger' just running the numbers based on an earlier post.

But it's ok, keep slamming and come back in another week agreeing with everyone. You are the backpedal king.

I'm surprised the CDC hasn't enlisted the champs of this thread for help.

Good answer... and if some people would take their Blinders off, you wouldn’t have to say anything about your credentials.. I don’t know you personally but somehow I find myself listening to every word you post, I trust your judgement and desire to educate those of us that need just that!
So no pm from me..I’m good!
Thanks for sticking it out despite a few who would think the opposite..

No one is asking you to prove yourself. You interjected yourself into this by listing your education, carrying on with predictions and opinions and then getting upset when you get questioned or called out for fear mongering.

3500 in a year means 9.6 per day in Canada

If it kills that many in a week in China; 3500 x 52 is.....182,000

Get it?

This virus is just in it's infancy.

Your numbers are nothing but speculation.
