It would seem to my uneducated brain that industry/habitat loss was having a much greater impact on Caribou numbers?

Caribou numbers have been in decline a lot longer than industry has been around!
How's the Jasper herds doing?

Exactly, just another reason to kick people out of the bush. What a joke. The caribou numbers are also declining in the mountain parks are they not? No industry and OHVs there. Maybe these herds are just on their way out, regardless.

Nube, your trapline will benefit from this move as long as they will allow trapping in Little Smokey. Our line is going to get hammered now as ANC told us at meeting this spring they will log our line if they are given caribou restrictions in Little Smokey. We are already experiencing a logging slaughter on the south end of our line by West Fraser/Hinton Pulp.

They make decisions with the same thought process as the gun control advocates.

In the words of an old timer biologist I had the pleasure of working with for a winter "perhaps its just in gods plan"

How long ago was that?
I'd like to do some reading up on that.
Got to wonder why there aren't any around now.

IIRC an avalanche took out a chunk in 2009

As far as the caribou go, would the most effective strategy not be a wolf cull? From what I understand that would help a lot of other species rebound and thrive.
Biggest conservation announcement in the past 90 years, setting aside 3 million acres of forest from industry, second only to Wood Buffalo NP in 1920's and you say you've yet to see her do something beneficial? You don't like protecting habitat? Are you on the right site?

And Whom are they protecting it from? You realize this will become off limits for all resident alberta hunters.
I doubt these tiny herds travel anymore then a township from spring to fall. This sounds like the begining of Y2Y again.
The woodland caribou is unfortunately dumber then a porqupine it doesn't seem to have the will to survive.
