Here's the problems I'm aware of:
If they eliminate both parties (or even just the WR) and create a new one, the 1+million that the WR have built up in the war-chest gets forfeited to the crown (currently the NDP).
Not only that, but I am told that the PC party is currently about $750,000 in debt (warning sirens going off in my head already).
Kenney is going to believe he is THE man, especially after the lickin' he layed down on Friday, so I can't see him joining forces and then stepping aside.
In my mind, the only sensible thing that can happen is for an amalgamation with Jean as the leader and Kenney with a special role.
Either way, this is going to be a nail-biter for sure.

The infighting was only coming from the liberals who infiltrated the PC party. They want the PC party to remain so that they can get the vote split again, and allow the NDP to retain a majority in 2019. Dont believe me that there is liberals in the PC party look at what Sandra Jansen did crossing the floor to the NDP.
In saying that 75% of the PC party obviously wanted to unite. As a WRP supporter I was against the idea at first but anything to get rid of the orange plague.

A single "center-right" party could win the next election. I doubt that would be the case of a "right" party. Seems the question WR will need to come to terms with is if it can move to that position, and if so, will the electorate believe them? The PC's who already own the center-right will be asking themselves if they can settle into Goldilocks bed which is probably just a nudge right.

Won't vote for any party that has Kenney as its leader. Hope Jean can take it over.

I won't vote for any party with the word progressive in it. That was the PC's problem since Klein, far too P and not enough C.
Harper changed the name federally for good reason. Provincial counterparts in Alberta should do the same if only to show that they understand why they went to the woodshed last election. You cannot be progressive & conservative at the same time, the terms are diametrically opposed.

Pretend the Wr and PC unite, and elect Kenney as the leader of the new party, who does your vote go to?

Pretty silly question as any sane person who is not a lifer NDP socialist would vote for the new party.
I saw one of the "lifer" NDP nutjobs at the premiers stampede breakfast at Mcdougal house shortly after the election. You should have heard the absolute nonsense she was loudly spewing.Harper bailed out the banks for 50 BILLION in secret.Harper sent the armed forces and invaded Afghanistan and on and on.This woman was a "lifer" all right and not just the NDP but also for AISH.A person that has never contributed to society and has only taken from it.
Wish I had a good smartphone as I would have recorded the nutjob and uploaded it to youtube....probably would be up to over 50 million hits now as this woman was a certifiable tinfoil hat wearing loon.....just the sort that supports the tax and spend more socialist policies of the NDP.

I voted WR in the last election, then found out last they were simply hoping to form the Official Oposition, not win. Bunch of goofs... then don't forget their stupid antics that they pulled before the election. Who could ever take them seriously again?
They better merge and they better have a real, actual experienced man running the party. BJ strikes me as some country hick leading some form of hillbilly rebellion.
But good, a bunch of PCs have left the party, and they were a huge part of the problem.
Merge, clean house, and proceed

Remember when the Reform and Conservatives worked out a merger way back in the day. [seems so long ago ] there was a guy from Alberta who was chosen as leader. He seemed like a pretty good fella for the job.
Wonder what he's doing now?

I stay home. Voting for Kenney would be no different than voting for Redford.
I won't vote for a Kenney led party nor an Oleary led party and can't vote NDP or Liberal so there's a good chance I'll not vote next two elections or will write in Stephen Harper on the ballot.

WildRose has the momentum, why would they turn it over to another Conservative Apparatchik ?

I agree, the Wildrose party has been abysmal and seems to do a great job of shooting themselves right in the foot before an election (remember the two morons and their comments in the 2012 election?).
That said, hard to judge Jean based off of the 2015 election, and personally the party seems a lot more serious with Jean at the helm. Wildrose party was in a complete state of disarray and looked like it was going to become defunct when Danielle Smith and the others crossed the floor to the PC's barely 5 months before the election. Jean only became the party leader literally less than 40 days before the election date. You try getting a solid candidacy platform put together in that time. Meanwhile PC's figured they were a shoe in and the NDP had been preparing a solid campaign for months on end. Tough to compete.
Not sure about him being a "country hick" either. Holds three degrees, including an MBA, JD and BSc...

Why should one have to hold their nose and vote for either crap or diarrhea?
That was the choice south of the border and I won't be a party to it here. I will vote for either WR or PC or a united group -- but not if Kenney is in charge. And NDP is not an option --ever-- so what to do?

It would be a blow out landslide victory.
No question, I would bet over 80% of the seats and possibly more if He rose to the occasion.
Would love to see Him and Brad Wall beating up on Trudy.

... not sure if they taught this in nova scotia or not.
When it comes to elections - your right to vote is the most sacred privilege bestowed upon us.
Do your research - read each parties platform, talk to people in the community you respect ...
and come the day of election -- vote for the politico who will do THE LEAST damage
TBD
PS ... if you decide to NOT exercise this right, than like Hipster said, you have no business sharing your opinions

I guess you had to be there.I have never encountered such a wackjob nutcase in my life. Her rantings were just off the scale crazy. She caused about 50 people to leave with her antics and those that stayed in line with her had her on ignore and it was a tough job.I seriously wish I had the phone I have now as I could have recorded a totally epic video that would have gone viral.
Everything about her from how she was dressed and what she was loudly saying tagged her a total tinfoil-hatter.She was all but foaming at the mouth yammering off about total falacies and conspiracy theories of how Harper was selling out Canada and secretly squandering TRILLIONS of dollars and she got the info from the "special secret media".

Who's from Nova Scotia?
How can it be a right and a privilege? It's one or the other. And if they are rights then that does not make them obligations.
Platforms mean nothing if the party is lead by a leftist twit or a used car salesman.
And between Notley and Kenney that would be "none of the above".
And I look forward to you and hipster coming by to remove my right to free speech simply because I might choose not to exercise another right. Have fun with that.

As i have to go to work.
If you are having trouble chosing b/w a competent federal minister (Kenney) and Nutley - you are right, you should not vote - EVER !
TBD
PS .... voting in this country becomes a privilege at the point of incarceration. So yes it can be both.

Not doubting your recollection or the events. Just saying there are wingnuts in all parties. When Danielle Smith was running the WR she lost because of a religious fanatic wing nut.

Umm. Those links are pretty clear in stating that the SCOC determined that it IS in fact a prisoner's right to vote in Canadian elections. Did you even read the links?
And thanks for determining how I should live my life. You have more in common with the NDP than you know.
