No offence intended to anyone who suggested a fixed 4x for dangerous game, but I won't even use a variable with a bottom end below 3x for deer hunting in mixed cover. Would you consider a 4-16 variable for dangerous game? Just because it doesn't go higher than 4x does not make it a low magnification scope.
I don't personally own a dangerous game scope, since I don't hunt dangerous game I suppose? But my first choice would be a Leica Magnus 1-6.3x24 or similar.

Um....I forgot the mid range part. I suppose a Leupold VX-5HD 1-5×24 with firedot duplex would be a fantastic choice for around a grand.

The f.o.v. at 100 yards at minimum magnification is 114 ft for VX-5 and 142 ft for the Leica Magnus....Swarovski z8i has 127 ft by comparison. Gotta think that's a big part of what you're paying top dollar for.

All my big rifles have Leupold 1.5X5 X24 on them with German#1 reticle they are a superb dangerous game scope, my ruger with one in 375 has had over 1000 rounds threw it and has never missed a beat.
Sure a nightforce or ziess would be nice, but the nightforce is a ugly ass scope on a DG rifle, and the ziess costs about 4 times as much. SB also has a great one and a friend has one but it costs close to $2500
