How so chuck? I didn't say it was ineffective just wondering how that calibers still made that list when there is plenty of superior calibers below it. IMHO

That is just you! Although the lists posted on this thread were based on popularity and not so called superiority, the 30-06 did place ahead of the 7mm Rem. I should remind you that the lists were not composed of 1906 popularity buy fairly recent popularity.

What I found interesting about this article is this quote from the author:

"I also find it interesting that the youngest cartridge on Federal's list was introduced way back in 1963."

No... its an honest question.

The choices were based upon reloading dies and percieved consumption not speed, power etc.

Aside from that... there are more ways to measure superiority than just down range performance and if we did use those as the sole criteria..... In a list of 5... your 7mm still would not place.

Read my first question " how did the 30-06 make # 2 ?" That implies I didn't read it .

Exactly my point.

If you'd read it... you would have had your answer.

Not trying to be an arse here... just didn't realise that you were trying stir the pot.

We have three .30-06 in the stable at home. I can't think of a more tried, true and more proven caliber over the years. Versatile, easy to reload and i can buy ammo everywhere including a few gas stations we fuel up at during hunting season.

Chuck's signature which is a quote from Phil Shoemaker tells it like it is. I have had the pleasure of emailing and conversing with Phil Shoemaker about the good ol .30-06 his stamp of approval speaks volumes. Phil as well as his son Taj and daughter Tia have done it all when it comes to Alaskan hunting and guiding. I don't think you could ask for a better hunting authority in regards to real world experience.
