Thank you.

"The Elk herd at CFB Suffield is managed as a provincial resource by Alberta Sustainable Resource Development in conjunction with the Department of National Defence."

What do you know about the DND and how much ASRD can do with their permission?

DND is Federal is it not??

Please enlighten us.

I'm sure there will be a fist fight or two on these hunts.....can't imagine what it will be like when 50-100 guys come across a big herd of bulls. Better have some shoes on that you can sprint with cause there will be a foot race or two to tag the bull you and 5 other guys shot at the same time...especially the big ones. not my type of hunt, but kudos to all that get a chance to experience a true prairie mecca and see some nice critters!!

There have been hunts around the base for many years. I think the elk just did a little better than anyone thought they would.

To bad you werent in charge from the beginning then it would all be perfect!!

Quit whining because you arent the first one allowed to hunt bulls on the base.

You are a real class act there Mr. Looper... I am a land owner here and this fiasco has done absolutely zero for the area is regards to our future heritage. In actuality, the fiasco as I mentioned earlier has locked up tracks of lands where some have enjoyed for decades.

You wisdom about these elk doing a little better than they thought is about par for your comments.. You say I am whining because I don't get to hunt bulls, ridiculous statement as you know absolutely nothing about me.

You can send me a PM thou and fill me in as to who you are so in the future I will remember and quit my whining.

Actually it has provided elk harvesting opportunity for thousands. Fed alot of people so far.

It's provided trophies of a lifetime for some gents already.

Its taken pressure of of other WMU's.

You keep talking about these locked up tracts of land? Where?

I suspect that after the first couple of weeks the bull hunt will require getting off the roads and hiking the hills. Just like Pronghorn season....

This is my understanding of the events:

Everyone knew there was going to be an elk over population problem.
Nobody lobbied the DND to allow for a season
In a period of exceptionally long draw wait times, residents sat back patiently because they knew someone was looking after it... and that's what we do.
Landowners force DND (with the help of SRD) to get a cull together. Except no one was their to look after resident equality.
Indians show up, cull whatever. Flaunt it.
Residents allowed to cull some cows exclusively as a friendly gesture.
Residents start to wake up to reality.
AFGA decides to make a wave.
New 2 day bull draw "hunt" established.

And yes, as bonedogg said. To wear a go-pro on the first hunt will be all the evidence we need as to what hunting has become in this province. Too bad, and don't fear, rock bottom is near.
