This pack of wolves had been in a specific area and were doing extensive stock damage the word extensive being an understatement! as the wolves had done about $200,000 damage in livestock value. This pack of wolves had been named "The Phantom Pack" as the government guys showed up and tried to kill them, and tried for 2 years to get them but for some reason unknown to me these guys couldn't do the job and they got zero! Funny eh? Two years and got zero! (I heard a funny story similar in SW Alberta once! minus the flying) So they contracted my friend.
His job was to kill all 13 wolves and he couldn't use a plane as in his words, "it was all dark forest, I couldn't use the plane". He was dealing with a pack that had been highly educated as the g-men had been harassing them for two years. He used traps, snares, and calls, taking 5 with traps, 4 with snares and called and killed the other 4 with the rifle, and he did the job in 7 weeks!
No aircraft and no poison used!
I say congrats, and well done my true friend! This is a true accomplishment!

That's very impressive!!! Congrats to your friend on his success, not a feat many could accomplish

Strange he wants to be so secretive and unknown yet quite willing to SELL his ( this ) poster/print of the exact picture that was posted in post #1 for 46.99 to anyone who wants one. Just click on the photo in post #1 . I don't know ????? Other purchase option are a canvass wrap or a metal print. He seems quite commercial, not shy.

Oh whatever, skeptics are expected. This is the internet, plenty of BS out there to cause us to be skeptical of whatever we encounter.
Meanwhile, in this world there are exceptional people out there and this guy is one of them. Any of the skeptics out there ever heard of a guy named Scott Huber? Yes, I thought not! Anyways, one of the greatest minds in the coyote killing world, a real expert and I would have to rate this wolf trapper guy right up there with him (actually beyond). On top of his "acquired skill set" this guy has drive like I have never seen.

Huber used to write for a Trapping and Calling magazine I think. There was a famous Phantom pack in Idaho but I thought it was the area they were in they were named after. I'm still skeptical how these wolves could kill $200,000 worth of cattle and sheep in one or two years. What did they kill if you happen to know?

We all know it was not 200,000. I'm sure some of the ranchers embellished a bit for a wee better payout. Just my opinion.

Tex, I have no idea what they were eating at the time, both? Likely cattle. What are they worth today? More than a couple years ago but even cows at 200 head x $1000 obviously equals $200,000, but cows take a while to eat. Then there's 365 days per year x2. Eat a $700 calf every couple days.... $700 when they come home in the fall, if they don't come home no $700 x 300 in two years, math sure is easy.
Rod, you did make me laugh! Ya, weird, wolves pursued relentlessly all summer, survived then show up at 5 traps and get whacked. But with these Parks people running around making silly rules, possibly the real pros hands were tied.

Good stuff Marty. What everyone here seems to often miss on here is the point of this. Its not how much did it cost, how exactly was it done, what are cows actually worth....Its the fact that a paid for (and likely very expensive) government program failed. THEN they bring in the lowly trapper who quickly does what others could not. It is stories like this that better us as a group, not the other way around.
On a side note, kudos to that guy! Taking out a pack of wolves is no small feat. What people don't realize about wolves is that you teach the entire pack every time you put up a set. You have to be incredibly crafty and knowledgeable to fool them all (gun or trap, or both, I don't care).

Takes a pretty dedicated trapper to live in a forestry tent for 7 weeks in the winter.

SWT.... I was laughing at the fact that the poster thought Marty was trying to sell prints of the picture. It is just what photobucket does, it wasn't Marty trying to sell the prints. I have nothing but respect for Marty posting those pics to share, the people one here trying to make something out of it that its not is what's comical.
There was no disrespect on my part to Marty in any way shape or form.
Dave.

I think we all got your drift with your first skeptical post. When will it end? No biggie, like I previously suggested, I expect some to be skeptical.
But do share with us some of your wolf killing stories. You also had suggested that you have some experience in this department, with trying to annihalate a pack a time or two or more. Seriously, I'm bored, it's been a long summer. Pictures most welcome.
I'm glad you're the real thing, not like this trouble making character that's been hanging around wasting his time. Her time? It's time! (He, she, or it...)
