Exclamation

had a awesome ride in WMU936 (Blackfoot ) after helping a forum member find a cow Moose that offered him no shot. Nothing like a 3 hour ride to warm up the legs on a chilly morning. Couple pics of my Reign from today , taken with a cell phone.

Thanks!! I only made it out fishing 3 times the whole spring and summer due to this Sexxy beast.

I would really like to set up a group trip to Whistler to ride the bike trails/parks for next summer if possible, share costs of fuel, hotels, etc etc

Well this thread has inspired me to get back into it. I called my buddy in Vancouver who is one of these hardcore trail riding guys he agreed to sell me this one for $600. Not sure if thats a great deal but he says thats what he has into it and we've been best friends for 20 years so I figure why not. Can't wait to get it dec 2

sheep you have two very decent hard tail bikes there....however, if it was me i would stick them both up for sale on pinkbike or some other site and use the cash to get into a nice full suspension...like the rig bigbore is riding...but that is just me lol..

here is my bike
http://www.flickr.com/photos/27217764@N06/3441520140/

she is a bit older and banged up now...soon there will be a new steed in her place...

I also prefer full sussers for riding, but you have to admit that riding a hardtail will make you a way more skilled rider. They're just not as forgiving of sloppy riding as, say your cool Giant or my Prophet. When I got Mrs Roadkill into riding, she went for a hardtail Devinci cactus. At that point it was because you get a better bike than you will a dualie for the same price, but it's made her a much better rider.

I used to love hardtails, had a Norco Bigfoot but after tasting full suspension, i would never go back, except for my next bike which will be a hardtail for Concrete bike park/street/dirtjumper. My GIANT Reign in a All-mountain X-country bike and its rear suspension can be locked out for climbing, Although with the Maestro suspension system, you dont need to.

Anyone in Edmonton up for a ride on Saturday???

I would totally be down for a ride however I won't be flying home from vancouver with the bike untill Dec 2. I really want to get into better shape and have some fun at the same time, however if your hitting the "hardcore" trails I may have to bow out untill I get some confidance again as it's been a few years since I've done any serious riding. If your looking for a riding buddy I'd love to join you if your one of these "all weather" riders!! I'm sure my first ride will be in the white stuff.

I like some of the wicked trails, but i do like to just get out on the bikepaths in the rivervalley as well. WMU936 by elk island park is alot of fun and you gety to run into so many animals.

Maybe come Spring we can get some AO member rides going, or even a road trip to Whistler BC to ride the bike park !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i actually don't know if i agree with that..100%....i think a hard tail makes you a better rider in that you have to learn how to use your body as your suspension..which works on your balance etc...however i think you have to learn how to be a much more efficient rider with a fully....learning how to shift better, anticipate, pedal smoother.....as well todays higher end fullies ride so close to a hard tail on climbs and flats that it is insane..and then when you point it down hill your life changes.

i am hoping to buy two bikes in the near future...a new 5x5 sub 29lb mt bike and a carbon framed/fork road bike.

just had to comment i really like how you ended that sentence.

My Reign floats over tree roots, and the full susp. sure gives a person confidence.

Heres a question for you all............... do you use a full face bicycle helmet or one of those vented half shell jobies? Im thinking of buying a full face and getting it custom painted , just for the more off trail stuff so if i hit a run of roots and have an epic fail, my chin wont smash into a tree, lol

yup trails that once scared the daylights out of me..steep, rooty, babie head rocks all over....i remember crawling down those....trying not to lock my brakes up etc....now you just pick a line and let the suspension do its thing.

as for a helmet..it depends on the trail....if i know there is some serious steepness or drops, stunts (i am not too into stunts at all)...then i am in my full face....i wipe out way too much and i kinda like my teeth...

for an everyday trail ride on some smooth single/double track...fire roads etc...just a regular plain jane bike helmet.

this is a bike i am drooling over currently...

http://www.jamisbikes.com/canada/the...dakarxct4.html

i have a feeling it is waaaaaaay out of my price range though. lol

fernie is great for biking down. tons of fun. IMO, thats the only place a full suspension is preferred though. too much wasted energy for me at any other time. if my butt was too tender, a suspension seat post would make more sense. i guess i gotta go rustle up some pics of my norco wolverine. i bet that unit has more kms on it than my truck does right now.

i totally disagree bambi lol...but that is why they make both styles i guess lol....

Ive never been to either, but i think after leaving , i wouldnt be smiling for weeks, id be in tears cuz i wouldnt want to leave.

And yeah moose.... i was gonna say looks like a dirtjumper, 6 maybe 8 speeds. Might be a bit tough on the legs of you want to hit the river valley bike paths.

AND OMG I found a trail that starts north of the Museum by 104ave.......... it starts dirt, roots, a small wood crossing, and then turns into paved.... nothing but speed, zooooooooom all the way to river valleye by parking lot on the end of groat road. Im sure there is lots like it, but fast is gooood

I need to get back into MTB'ing in a bad way. Used to ride everyday.

Looks like things have advanced slightly in the past 18 yrs.

I stayed at Fernie resort 2 yrs ago during the summer, and If my wife was even slightly interested (which she was not at the time), I would've rented a DH bike. Looked like so much fun.

Be careful riding when in Fernie there was a jump on Top Gun that kicks you forward into a nasty landing. I did a no hander lander and lost a few hours of the day, followed up with a good concussion, and got a free ride to Cranbrook for a CAT Scan, the accident actually broke a chunk out of me helmet.
Alot of people where waxing out at that jump.
Be careful when ride in a park like that.

That bike is the exact same set up as what I used to ride so I figure stick with what I'm confortable with for now and just see how it goes. The price is just right incase I just slack again I won't feel as bad if I go out and spend BIB bucks on a bike, I have to admit I'm pretty stoked to hit the trails again. And just to ad to some other posts here I prefer a full face helumt I can't afford to get any uglier. lol

I am in the process of selling my bike and buying a new (to me) bike. Debating between a giant trance x2 or a Santa Cruz blur lt. The giant is newer, 2010 but is only 5x5. The sc is a 2008 but hardly been used and is a 6x6. The giant is lighter at 27lbs vs. 29. Kind of torn on which one to go with. Williston likely come down to which ever one I can get the best deal on.

Have been doing some research on trails in the crowsnest. Looks like some promising trails for sure.

Bigbore what does your reign weigh?
