That is my experience as well. Saw a vehicle ad, car was described as "Mint" and then further down in the ad an explanation that the only thing damaged in the minor fender bender was a crack in the bumper.

Mint means… as it came from the factory, zero sear, zero issues.
It many things can be called mint. If it’s a coin, where the saying actually came from that means it’s absolutely pristine.

Mint should be Mint. Like no wears at all. Some people are deceptive when describing their guns for sale. Sorry, bro.

Hope it works out for you, you do your best to research a seller, ask for pics( are they of the same rifle), reviews (are they bogus) etc I have bought off this forum and to date no issues at all but I know if I was buying lots on line from various sites sooner or later disappointment would follow....buyer beware...yup....hope that you can work something out.

In mint condition except for where it had hit a moose! Wasted a 1/4 tank of gas to go see it.

For those dummies that use the term mint without knowing what it means:

"Mint condition is an expression used in the description of pre-owned goods. Originally, the phrase comes from the way collectors describe the condition of coins. As the name given to a coin factory is a "mint", then mint condition is the condition a coin is in when it leaves the mint. Over time, the term "mint" began to be used to describe many different items having excellent, like-new quality."

The last four words say it all.

"Minty" is how something tastes or smells, like Frog Lube.

Minty means mintish. In other words, not mint. Lol

Some time ago I was reading a gun newspaper that on the 1st or 2nd page there was a "how to value a gun for sale" or something like that.

It broke down the value by condition; mint, excellent, good, fair...etc

For some reason I thought it was in Yellowknife but somewhere up north.

My point being, have AO post it in the sale section, to set a standard?

I will look further.

I found one like that too! Mint condition, clean car fax... I ran it, the vehicle had an accident worth 15,000, and had a lean on it. The guy just said oh it was nothing.

Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous people out there. As the saying goes “buyer beware”.

Well it sounds like you got worked a bit, I would definitely give the guy a piece of my mind, however...

You now have an "as is" 1978 M700 in 8mm RemMag.

Sounds like you need to buy a nice aftermarket stock, buy some kinda fancy trigger, do a bit of clean-up work and take that thing out for a spring bear hunt.

Sometimes when ya get lemons best thing is to make lemonade.

One thing I’ve learned in my purchases on this forum “Unfired by me” usually means there a problem with the firearm.

When he said mint condition maybe he meant the mint the kid had been sucking on and spit out on the car floor boards

I believe its mint shape. I sent you pictures.

Well I have my answer I guess. Caulk it up to next time get better pictures
Did he send you the wrong gun? Newer or older production has nothing to do with condition. You should go back to him and say that the picture he sent was not of the gun you now have since it didn’t show any of the blemishes. Let him know that you will be returning the rifle and expecting a refund.

Well put a new Timney trigger in it. and spent 2 hours cleaning the bore( I am not sure if it ever was cleaned properly to get the copper out)
Cleaned up the stock the best I could, and put a bit of cold blue on the worst spots on the barrel.
Took it to the range the other day, well the magnaport works better than I thought, takes away the mussel lift, and there is a definite reduction in recoil.(compared to the 8mm mag I have shot in the past)
Had some old reloads from my past 8mag, not heavy loads, so they chambered well, 200gr Nosler Accubonds. About 1.5 inches at 100yards.
So not terrible
I am going to develop a load with 180Gr Nosler Ballistic tips, and see how it goes. Try out IMR7828 and IMR4831 since I have lots on hand.
Because of the shape on this one, I am not going to worry about sticking it in a saddle scabbard or the odd bump or scratch.
Not exactly what I was expecting out of this gun when I bought it, but not a bunch of choices now. If the barrel develops any rust, I will just get the whole thing cericoated.

That could be, but it's certainly not always the case. I recently sold a firearm I'd bought in a group purchase. I live in town, so I have to plan my shooting events, and I didn't have any ammo for that particular gun. I'm not aware of any issues with the gun, just hadn't shot it.

Homework? This isn't on the buyer man, this is on the seller. He did not provide pics of the blemishes on the gun, never mind the bent trigger. Bent trigger, how do you even bend a trigger??
The seller should refund the money to the OP, no question in my mind.

Guess you missed this in the first post.....

Pictures were not great lighting, and hid almost everything.
This was on CGN not on here
He had a good trader rating, but I guess I could have asked for better pictures.

Here are the pictures the seller sent me.
Am I wrong by these pictures and the seller saying it was “mint” to think it was in next to new shape???
