Friend just sent me a text that his dad was running the marathon today and was two minutes away from the finish line when the bombs detonated. Friends shook up pretty bad...Kinda hits home when you know someone in it....

Got a text from cousins wife. They are ok, bomb went off as they were leaving.
Don't know how close they were, don't want to speculate.

They are safe and staying in hotel.

Don't know what to think anymore, but cripes, hope it's over with. Reports of an 8 year old killed in the explosion but there's so many conflicting reports going on... Sad day for all involved.

Low explosive, probably a healthy dose around 20lbs... Can see glass blown out within approx 60' radius but little structure damage conducive to HE material that would have had a wider over pressure area and a lot more dust due to the shock wave snapping out bringing debris with it... Can't even begin to guess what was actually used but it was not anything special...

Observe the flags in the video... Barely straightend em out and they were close... Also the fireball... Light weight packaging not holding back the pressure so you get a fire ball of material instead of a bigger boom... Crude work but very effective.

It could be a nitrate based bomb... The white smoke might have been the unspent diesel or NM catalyst gassing off.
