He was ranked higher than Tij.

Hard to say

Tij is a forward. Zayne is a defenceman.

Zayne is however an offensive defenceman and appears to be quite aggressive which we need.

Pretty sure neither failed to make the playoffs for the first seven years of their careers either but hey.

By all accounts, Conroy, Button and crew knocked this draft out of the park. Lots of picks that have a high skill ceiling (something severely lacking in the organization right now) and a few real good value picks (picked later than rated). It was nice to see the team make the picks they had, instead of constantly trading down in the draft for an extra pick or two - Treliving's calling card.

Excited to see what Parekh can do in a couple years. Sounds like his skill set is comparable to Makar and Hughes - that's not nothing!

Default The goalie?

Do you think that the Russian goalie can play at the NHL level? Without a very good goaltender it doesn't matter who you draft.

Goalies are such a wild card so who knows, but I would imagine the Flames wouldn't mind if he found his way to the KHL for a few years to develop further and play against higher end competition and then come over to North America. That said, maybe the Flames will try and bring him over sooner so their player development group has eyes on him and can work closely with him. Goalies are weird.... Lol

Edit: I did read that this goalie was #1 on the Flames list and their goaltending coach/scout (can't remember his official title) Jordan Sigelet wanted Conroy to take him with their 2nd pick in the 1st round, so they were pretty high on him.

Not every team can get four #1 picks, some just have to make do.

Does Conroy go for Duclair tomorrow? Try to get Huberdeau going.

Some teams do that even after getting four #1 picks.

I don't think so. Firstly, he has no chance at winning another cup if he plays here. And I'd think he wants to play for at least a contender.

Secondly, we're now clearly in a midst of a rebuild - Conroy has already done a great job of getting some young talent in here last season.

We already have Huberdeau & Kadri as two 'big name' veterans who have taken on more mentoring type of roles rather than premier scoring roles - rolling the dice on another veteran who has a history of injuries and is arguably past their best years is a risk I don't think they're willing to take.

Only if it's a one year deal for huge money, then we can flip him, essentially buying draft picks. Realistically though, I'd be shocked if he came to Calgary.

Yeah, don’t think Stamkos to Calgary is a good idea for the reasons stated. First, he’ll likely be signing with a Cup contender. Second, my guess is his asking price is quite a bit because Tampa wasn’t able to sign him to finish it off at home (shocking in a way, actually).

Can't say I like the Ryan Lomberg signing, but, alas, Craig didn't ask me.

Least it wasn't Lindholm for 7 years at 7.75M!
