But how could the advice of the medical professionals change? Science told us not to wear masks. Science, according to you, is infallible; and only a fool would question it. So how did it change? It can’t change. It was right when they said not to, and they are still right when they now tell us to? You can’t have it both ways. Science was either wrong or it’s just a cult. Either way, skepticism definitely doesn’t mean you are weak minded.

Really? I know that politicians select the science or statistics that they like. You said "the politicians then use the statisticians to relate the science to fit their agenda" and I was asking you to explain what that meant. Please do so. Thanks.
Your second paragraph indicates that you don't understand how science works. I never, of course, said that science is infallible. Science is constantly changing as new information, new explanations, new theories and hypotheses arise. Scientists question all the time, but they believe that the scientific method, so called, is the best route to objective truth. Scientists, ideally at least, do not assume that a theory or hypothesis will remain unchanged.
There is nothing wrong with skepticism in pursuit of the truth and I did not say that there was.

I look at it this way. I have a husband who has serious heart/lung issues. I want to wear a mask and take precautions because I love him dearly. Anyone who has ever seen someone die from Lung disease (like I have) will know about the suffering of what they go thru before merciful death comes.
I am not going to take a chance like that. I care about my loved ones, I'm going to wear a mask. Not because of political or who so and so says about their rights.
I'm doing it for him. Period. Doing it for love.

It's quite clear that they do not understand it. Once Dr. Tam or Dr. Hinshaw makes a statement, that's it forever. I see this criticism of science everywhere and I try hard to realize that it is just their own narrow-mindedness and lack of understanding in operation. And empathize with them to as great an extent as I can.

I have one more "argument" to try. What are the odds of being killed by a grizzly bear in Alberta? Do you advise against carrying a gun (or bear spray if that's your preference) when hiking in bear country?

Many of the doctors that are making the rules are employed by whom?? But you think they won't manipulate stats or push agendas based on bias?
I carry a gun in the back country for many reasons beyond grizz protection. I am usually alone and possibility of getting hurt and needing to be out longer is real, and stump shooting ( the actual reason I usually pack)
At the end of the day I am responsible for my own health and safety as you are for yourself. If you think wearing a mask is best for you knock your socks off. I don't agree with any of the so called reasons the government is telling us to ( by the way who is paying these doctors to tell us what we need to do?). Your a grown man capable of looking at facts and figuring out what you want to do. So am i. You or anyone else forcing compliance on masks is a huge overreach based on facts

Let's talk about so called science then.
how old is the earth?
How about global warming?
When does life begin?
Are people intelligently designed or made from goo?
Are people born as male/ female or both/ either...umm I don't know?
And so on
Still think we can just follow the science?

I just have the serology positive numbers calculated from late May/June, 36000. That works out to less than 1% of Albertas population of 4.3 million people at that time, but you are correct and the numbers will change, day by day. I assume, but don't know, that they are continuing to collect the data to keep up to date on the number of infected that don't actually go and get tested.

Well, I agree that mask wearing is based on facts.
I think you already know that the doctors telling us what to do are employed by a huge range of organizations, with a few in private practice. They work for provincial governments, state governments, national governments around the world, private research organizations, government research organizations, and so on.
The huge majority of these epidemiologists, virologists, infectious disease specialists and practitioners are telling us that there is a pandemic, highly-contagious virus killing hundreds of thousands of people around the world and leaving countless others with chronic organ damage. They are providing their best advice on how to control the virus and reduce its effects on societies and individuals. Unfortunately, some of their advice involves group cooperation. Too bad you hate people telling you what to do, even if it's good for society at large.
I think that about covers it.

I actually don't know what the odds are. Not sure how a person could come up with a number on that without knowing how many people are in bear country per year.
I don't carry bear spray. About the only time I carry a gun is because I'm hunting. I could care less if someone carries spray, I could also care less if someone wears a mask, gloves, and goggles. Whatever floats your boat
I've been charged by a big old boar grizz up in Prophet River (BC). Scared the crap out of me. I didn't have spray or a gun.
Guess I beat those low odds.

I truly don’t get some of you people....particularly the ‘it’s no worse than the flu’.
Yearly average deaths due to the flu in Canada is about 1000. https://ipac-canada.org/influenza-resources.php
Deaths due to Covid in six months....9000.
Yeah......

And the general consensus amongst medical professionals is that it would be much worse if Alberta (and Canada) hadn’t been so aggressive.

I think that your post just shows that you don't understand science. The age of the earth is a topic for scientific determination and the discussion is readily accessed. "Global warming" is somewhat more contentious and there is a great deal of material available. That a universal consensus has not been reached does not invalidate science per se.
When life begins is something of a semantic argument, not a scientific one.
And so on. It is not difficult to find topics that do not have, at least currently, a solid scientific answer.
However, there are many more examples of science supporting real world actions that meet the needs of humanity. A few examples would be immunization, antibiotic treatment, medical imaging, modern agricultural practices and sanitation. Without science I would not have lived long enough to be at high risk from SARS-CoV-2.

Texas and Florida were virtually untouched early on, and they got cocky, started spewing all sorts of anti science conspiracy drivel, and then......Now they are digging graves at a rapid pace. Their death rate has risen by 24% in one week.

do.You have actual proof? He died by car crash with covid..covid death. Example. # are largely screwed
Would be interesting to compare deaths to date against last year and so on. I don't for a second believe covid has killed as many as we are led to believe

Canada aggressive? The borders were left open long after the virus was discovered, we still let in many, many temporary foreign workers, we let people gather by the thousands to protest, and we gave away most of our masks and equipment early on. I don't consider that aggressive at all. The only aggressive action by our federal government, was to try and bypass parliament. Our federal government failed miserably, even though the provinces did take action to slow the spread. And then provinces imposed huge fines on people for being in parks, while they took no actions against thousands of idiots, including our PM for ignoring social distancing and public gathering restrictions, while they protested.
