Yea, Dallas is playing Colorado, that will be like going through a buzz saw and it wouldn't be much different if the Flames advanced. Colorado, Vegas, Tampa, and Boston are really good.

This team has enough depth to make the playoffs each year without some of the “top” players. That’s not an issue.
The issue will be replacing a couple upper end regular season providers for a couple proven players that excel under pressure for the playoffs.
1st round exits are getting old.

I figured flames would get by Dallas but this explains it.

Sighhhh. That was so disappointing. My son and I were on a guys trip through BC and only missed the Sunday game as we were quading in Golden. That final game was just BS... Who the "F" pulls a goalie in a tied/do or die game to replace him with a untested beyond cold GT who hadn't seen a real game since there was 6 feet of snow on the ground!!! . That was the DUMBEST move I have seen pulled by a Flames coach EVER.. This is right up there with "Hey.. Lets trade Killer for Leeman" For those that don't know what I am talking about, go look it up. YUCK!!! I hope they made Ward hitch hike back to Calgary... This whole thing has to be torn apart. Geo can go while he has some minor value, Johnny has to go I am afraid. Monahan ?? Pick a goalie because the future of this franchise is in the minors, one of them has to go. Bennet needs to stay, I like his heart. New coach.. New GM... I was really enjoying watching hockey in the summer.. I guess I watch the Bruins now...

I think Calgary has the record for most 1st Round exits from Playoffs...

The worst being 1988 when they were swept by the oilers.....and Calgary once again had best Regular Season record.

They are just an abysmal playoff team.

The 2003-04 run was one of the best playoffs they ever had.

86,89, 04(Stanley Cup Champions***)

The only 3x the Flames had a good post season showing.....that's not alot to be proud of???

Vegas just handling the Nucks. They are a solid complete team. The West should be them.

While the Soilers have the dubious distinction of missing the playoffs completely in 13 or the last 14 years

The Flames wouldn’t have gotten by the Jets with a healthy Laine and Scheifele but they would have won the cup with a healthy Tkachuk.

It appears that someone forgot to tell Dallas that Colorado is a buzz saw and will chew them up

If Colorado doesn't get their poop in a group they will be golfing with Calgary by the end of the week

Yup, and they sure don't want to be golfing with the Oilers, they've had too much time to polish up their game this year........ just like so many other years.

Hard to predict Colorado's starting goalie getting hurt 25 minutes in, but pile on if it makes you feel better.

Man Johnny should take notes from Petterson, on how a player that size should play. He is so good.

Jeeze Johnny should take notes from someone in the Flames alumni who was even smaller but still put up 1088 points in 1084 games. During a much tougher clutch and grab era I might add....

Well not who I was hoping for but could be worse. Think he did a good job minus that one gaff in the final game. Now Treliving needs to get on some players that can score.

Flames signed Markstrom for 6 years at $6M per. Seems like alot of term and cash for a good playoff run.

I like Markstrom, and don't think it's necessarily a terrible signing, but career averages...

Markstrom: 272 GP, 110 W, 2.80 GAA, .911 SA%
Rittich: 115 GP, 59 W, 2.82 GAA, 0.908 SA%.

Those numbers are pretty close considering one guys is getting double the pay of the other...

I'm not saying Markstroms a worse goalie. I'm just muting my excitement till they start playing again. He's been in the league since 2010, and has put up two seasons with a SV% above 0.915.

FInally a solid #1 tendie. I like the signing myself. He has killed us so many times in the past and is consistent. No trade so protected from expansion. Now put the players in front of him like Kipper had, and we are looking good. Need scoring still, so Brad isn't done yet.

Looks like the Oilers will have to settle on Jimmy Howard and Kostawin for their tenders

He really struggled when he was with Florida, kinda hit his stride with Vancouver though.

You can’t factor in what Markstrom did in Florida 8 years ago and his early days with the Canucks. The goalie coach in Vancouver is the best in the business. They developed him into a true #1. They will regret the cap hit down the road but the first 4 years should be solid. He’s an excellent goalie. I’m glad the Canucks didn’t sign him to that deal. They have Demko who is on the cusp of stardom and Holtby was a great insurance policy. Everyone wins with this signing. Except Seattle lol

Exactly. There’s ALWAYS a risk a goalie might have a bad year, or regress. Markstrom was the best goalie available on the market, but that comes with zero guarantees obviously. Kudos to Calgary for filling their need with the best option, although it could be argued they overpaid, namely in term. That’s what happens if you want to win what is essentially a bidding war. Vancouver has Demko on the rise, and couldn’t match the term especially, just to lose one of them to SEA, or have to give them something to NOT take one of the goalies.

Flames picked up two quality players in Markstrom and Tanev.
Canucks are cash strapped and something had to give.
