All the pre-game hype from the sports talking heads said that the Hawks defense was porous at best BUT their fire power up front could be dangerous. Oilers might have taken a sip of the kool aid

Yeah, there is certainly a porous D on the ice. Too bad they pulled Smith, they should have pulled all the D and had some wingers fill in for the night, shortened the bench....wow.

I wonder if maybe 3 games in 4 nights caught up to them.

They look a little tired to me.

Yup and Smith played like he was still in Calgary, he wasn't sharp at all, and the boys in front of him aren't sharp either

4 out of 6 points on a road trip is a success at anytime of the year. Headed to the game on Saturday in an executive suite... should be fun.

They should have started Koskinen after his lights out game against Dallas. Stick with the hot goalie! McDavid needs to win a few puck battles if his line hopes to make a difference. Last night was brutal. Fatigue and injury must be catching up to him. The coach also needs to find him steady line mates. That whole line was a mess, wish they would put him and Kassian together again seems like that was the only guy who could find chemistry with him on a regular basis. Lately it seems McDavid is floating around hoping for a pass and not willing to do the work. Would be hard being thought of as a star your entire career and be on the second line as well I guess. Just rambling here but seems like something is amiss with our highest paid player.

It’s line chemistry. He’s out of place and I’m guessing pretty frustrated. Word is he’s had a couple long chats with Tippett at practice.

Get him the puck in the neutral zone. Ennis and AA haven’t figured that out, they want to carry the puck and then dump it, or do a bad McDavid impersonation and drive the net for bad shots or a turnover.

Ennis and AA are dump and chase guys, McDavid is a possession guy. Expecting McDavid to crash the corner and win puck battles is a not a good plan, it’s a recipe for disaster. And once you’re down there, he’s not a cycle guy, he’s a puck movement guy. He’s not floating, he’s doing what he always does, moving to open ice to get the puck. His wingers are supposed to go get the puck and get it to him. That is there #1 job, #2 is to move your feet and have your stick on the ice at all times for a return pass. Ennis and AA are playing like 4th liners and not at his level. That’s the problem. One of them needs to figure it out, my preference would be AA. In the meantime, I’d love to see Kass back up there with him, Kass retrieves pucks, does the dirty work, and for whatever reason they click.

They’ve got 14 games to nail down his wingers and build some chemistry.

I’d like to see Archie McDavid and Kassian on the top line. Archie is fast and can play again like yamo does with Draisaitl and Nuge.

That is a great choice. Those 2 new guys are ok but maybe let them earn their way up the lineup.
Jujar drives me crazy. Man he does nothing out there

That line needs a finisher that can handle the puck, aka Draisaitl/Nuge. I love Archie, but he’s not either of those things. He’s a hustle guy that plays solid bottom 6 mins and shines on the PK, especially with Sheahan.

As much as it pains me, I think Neal is the answer to play with Kass and McD unless AA can figure it out over the next few games and become that guy this year. I think AA has all the tools, he just needs time to adjust his game to McD and vice versa. Until AA learns the systems and Tippett trusts him in his own zone, I think we’ll see Neal ahead of him.

First round would be interesting if the playoffs started today.

The oilers numbers in the win column climb a lot quicker when Klef is in the line up. Good news

I guess we were all right or all wrong depending how you look at it lol.

Nuge - McD - Kass
Ennis - Draisaitl - Yamo
AA - Sheahan - Archie
Neal - JJ - Chaisson

Benson out with Klefbom back.

I really don’t like splitting up that second line, Ennis is NOT Nuge, but McD needs help. I’ll trust Tippett and give it a go. I’ll be surprised if it stays that way all game though...

Weird. I thought anybody could rack up the points playing with McDavid.

How bad would someone have to be to not get points with Mcdavid?
