Default gophers being stuborn..

Went out a few times for gophers this year. I know they are there as there holes are fresh and everywhere. I have shot 3 in my 3 outings. Seen two or three I missed a shot at.. Last summer at this spot they were everywhere..

Am I just going at the wrong time? Generally 2pm-5pm is when I am there. It has been windy each time I was there does that affect them?

you can buy them at Peavy Mart too... they work good for bringing gophers out on windy days... and when you just killed one of two gophers, and want to bring the survivor back out of the hole

Best gopher times are between 8 and 11 in the morning and after 6 in the evening, I haven't been seeing many this year.

interesting.. anyone else have a best gopher time? I heard they come out early in the am to warm themselves in the sun.. but never heard after 6?? any reasoning behind it??

I always though sunny, calm is most important.. not time of day

Early morning and evening are the main feeding times.

I like the mornings, after 6 pm if they get scared down their hole they don't get in any hurry to come back out.
drove down to 3 hills today, looks like them southern gophers turned into muskrats.

Mornings are best at my place, afternoon they seem to be full and non active but often come out again in the evenings. Once the pups get older and more active they will feed all day to get fat before hibernation

We had good luck today between 1 and 3:30. Nice calm and sunny day. The pups were up and the action was steady. Lots of fun!!

Hello,
I know first post but I've been lurking for awhile. Are you all shooting on owned property or you just have your spot on crown land? I am in Edmonton and I am looking to shoot some gophers, could you point me in an area within reasonable proximity where I could go.

Thanks

I gained permission on 3 fields out of 5 that I asked west of the city. And 2 out of 4. North of the city...... some even give me ammo for the .22lr but not the .204ruger...lol

right now I have no time to go for a bit...work is busy and family obligations

Put some gas in your car and go knock on doors for an afternoon.... that's what I did

I was skeptical at first as well, but decided to give it a try. After 20 minutes I could have sold it for a tidy profit to my hunting buddies who had to eat crow when they saw the results.

Default Plenty of Gophers

Two of us were out at our favourite spot on Saturday.
It was 2:00 PM when the Sun finally peaked through,
it went from 2 to 8 degrees. Every Gopher in the country
popped its head out. We fired over 750 round in the next
5 hours. This was the first time I used my Marlin Model 1894 CSS
chambered for 357mag, spectacular!!!!

I like to hunt them in the morning when their out sunning them selves, they seem to be sleepy and don't go to ground as quickly when you miss. Other than that I've shot gophers at most times of daylight and in windy and even light rain conditions. Also keep an eye on the skies if there is a hawk circling near by your better off moving somewhere else.
