Default A few retorts

You might try any of these:

"He pulled his gun first, can I help it if I'm a better shot?"

or

"My grandpappy was shot by a moose, I'm just avenging his death" (I had one of our secretaries going for over a day on that one)

or

"How will I know it's fresh if I don't kill it myself"

or

"Somewhere in the bible the Lord told Moses (or one of them guys) to 'Kill and Eat'...I'm just followin' the good book"

or

"hunting keeps me broke and off the streets, the world is safer that way"

ask them if they know what is fed to animals that are commercially processed and what drugs where given to them, so why wuold you eat commercially processed meat, if you don't have to.

In any group of people there will be some hunters, a few anti-hunters and the rest will be "on the fence".

Of course the anti-hunters will be trying to get the non-hunters onto their side.

The hunters should be trying to win the support of the non-hunters. NOT PIZZING THEM OFF with sarcastic, insulting comments like much of the advice above.

If you are able to make an intelligent and reasonable explanation to people then please do us all a favour and deliver a positive message to non-hunters.

If you cannot then please do us all a favour and shrug your shoulders and walk away. Don't convert a non-hunter into an anti-hunter by being a smart ass.

I had a rather cute bank teller ask me this once, and I looked at her, and with a grin, said, "Because I really hate it when they wink at me with those big brown eyes", as I looked right into hers and gave her a big wink.

Everyone around, including her, cracked right up.

Levity sometimes works!

Hunting is part of nature, I chose to part of nature. I chose to be a predator not the prey.
