How old is the pup? Most pro trainers will not take a pup until socializing and house breaking are done. Seems 6-8 months of age is the right time to start serious obedience but a lot of the do's and don'ts are learned informally at a young age by setting the ground rules and sticking to them. any behavior you don't want in an adult shouldn't be tolerated in a pup. if you are going to hunt the dog start retrieving play to build desire right away at about 8-10 weeks. they don't even know they are being trained.

Default Lab

He is 4 1/2 months old, He sits, comes when called , stay, down. He is a real sponge and is house trained.I will put a treat on the floor about a foot away and make him stay until I release him. He will sit there for 1 min and then look at me as if to say can i go now! He is the smartest dog I ever had by far. Thanks for the help
