Just curious on why you think that Speckle? Not being sarcastic or anything, just like to see what others are thinking on certain areas.

lets say there is over 1047 sheep on mines site in survey 2009 and 400 elk and 200 mule deer then u add in a Horn Rot issue and Extra long cows feet on a Ram(feed) .. then you added in Selenium issue from mining (google sheep selenium kill)then u ask Val Giest and he said its is a matter of time to a collaspe/and That Horn rot issue is one ugly mystery.. then u added in a Uwe having her gutts hanging out and Ram after Ram after Ram and so on... mount her because she is in heat.,. next morning she is dead.... 250 Rams in one small area.. hunters becoming poachers the old carrot and string.. a hill in behind mine called Slaughter Hill.. u pet with one hand and shoot with other.. when i was young there were 23 sheep in Nov and 10 mule deer /1973 i worked as a Blaster helper drove around .. does that sound like good management!!!

I'm not saying anything except this. If you or anyone else are foolish enough to think that some group, any group, has your personal best interest at heart you are living in a fantasy world.

LOL...why does that statement not surprise me coming from your mouth. I'd like to think there are a lot of very dedicated conservation groups in this province that work very hard for all hunters. I had a long talk with the president of one of the groups very involved in the sheep "talks" and I'd never seen him so disillusioned with people in general. Here he is a super dedicated volunteer working to ensure the future of sheep hunting in Alberta and he's constantly being sniped at by people that have no clue what this group is actually doing. It was sad to see. Keep it up and we quite likely won't have anyone looking out for our best interests. I like my fantasy world thanks! I appreciate the hard work all of these volunteers do on my behalf too
It must be tough having that synical of a view of the world chuck.....I honestly feel bad for you. You are missing out on knowing a lot of good people.

check out the highlighted word there. there are a lot of groups out there fighting for hunters.....but none would be specifically dedicated to ram, or you or me or anyone else.
seemed obvious to me what chuck meant, but sometimes things get lost on the interweb.

I think the Government has been doing a good job at managing game in this province, because people are still killing animals and still hunting. If you listen to some people there are no animals left!!!!

I caught cod fish on the day before the moritorium on cod fish in Newfoundland. That was back in 92. Moritorium is still on.
You need to be educated on the topic yourself, expect no one to be looking out for your interests unless their stake in it is the same as yours, and they themselves have no other stake in it. From my experience, any other group that has a personal stake will compromise on your interests to preserve their own.

I think the point is that these groups are not some seperate entity or the enemy, they are a groups comprised of guys just like you and me.....you know, more voices working for a common goal. It's not a case of us and them. They are us.......... Yes, their stake in it is the same as mine, in fact I'm part of that stake through my membership in these groups. I voted for the people representing me and from what I've seen, they are doing a darned fine job. I feel lucky to have these hard working, dedicated volunteers at these meetings with SRD on my behalf.

Just a thought, if your so concerned maybe you should have lined it up to be there and get answers to questions and support the issues.
Just and idea and just for the record there are many questions that im sure will be asked and covered at the presentations that day. Be good to be there for anyone that can.

The number of Elk was 233 approx in Brule pasture(west hi-awy 40) Athabasca Ranch side(Entrance grass air strip) and Hinton side, Camp 1 ...the air survey is done .. the survey of Jasper National Park Sheep and Sheep in 438 and Sheep in Willmore or north of river is listed in earlier post on this topic

Just a question to whome ever may know. When they figure out the carrying capacity of an area and all that jaz what is involved.
How do they come up with what is to many? Do they look at potential diseases and that side of things also?
One other question on the selenium aspect. If it indeed an issue then is there a sollution to that? That sort of issue would be there no matter the population would it not?
Just looking for some info as I dont know all the ins and outs of this.

short answer how many animals can it feed and hold with out loosing ablility to regenerate,
no they look at feed etc
Selenium lots of unknowns(shows up in some mining processes) .. high levels in some kinds of grass (studys)water is the most deadly to Ungulates/fish/grasses .. leaching is the problem some areas have a higher content and break down quicker.. some think more time expose to nature/wind/rain/sun more exposed more leaching.. study show high levels can kill very quick!! 160 dead domestic sheep on Phospherous mine.. in 6 to 8 hrs .. then lots of horses /ungulates etc in areas.. some areas u would not even know if Ungulates died from it.. and some of the links of these issue are not studied.. disease,s etc .. remember it took Beth Williams 10 years to diagnosis CWD in deer elk in Colorado.. elk transplanted to Alberta and Saskatchewan then Alberta sent elk to Korea all three have CWD in elk/ wild animals
Just google what your question is .. we all are still learning even the experts..look at Japan ..my heart and soul pray for the people of Japan and area
