Is it Just me or is it Hughes Net Satellite Internet?
Hi I was wondering if any other board member has Hughes Net Satellite Internet.
I have had Hughes net satellite internet for about two years. I have had a consistent problem with the download threshold exceeding even when I download much less memory than what Hughes net says should trip the threshold. When this happens the internet gets much slower than dial up speed and gets so slow that the internet connection speed is barely existent.
I was wondering if anybody else was experiencing the same issue with Hughes Net.

I don't have it myself but everyone I know has got rid of satellite internet and gone with an aircard. If you get cell service a aircard will be faster.

I was with Explorer Net, god what a pain! I finally set a 68 foot tower and got wireless. Telus has something called a Smart Hub or router that can get you both a home phone and Internet. I was impressed because where we live cell phones are very marginal.

What issues did you have with Xplornet? It might be my only choice besides Telus mobility if we get the place we've put an offer on. Seems a lot cheaper than mobility would provide.

I've had Xplornet for about 4 years. When I first got it, I was quite happy with it. I had Telus[screwus] for phone and xplornet for internet.
About 3 years ago xplornet came out with VOip for phone service. $100 per month for all the phone service including unlimited long distance and internet.
Life was good, and I recommended it to anyone.
Ten about a year ago the phone service deteriorated so that it was unusable sometimes. They couldn't find a problem but by the time they got around to looking for one, the problem was gone. It usually took a few days.
This problem is getting steadily worse and now they say my antenna is not high enough. It was fine for 3 years but must have shrunk in the rain.
They suggest I get a tech out to assess the situation. About $300 . I'm waiting to see whether they plan to pay for it.
Nothing has changed on my end since installation. Odd the antenna is now too short.

My service was way to slow and with too much latency (?) for VOIP. They were very cavalier when it came to ever fixing or checking anything.
I get VOIP with my wireless now and I had some rough going at the beginning but once Telus came out with the Smart Hub, the company figured out what was wrong and now everything work like a charm. Funny that, huh?

My boss couldn't help bragging about Xplornet. He previously used Telus Mobility and Xplornet paid out his TM contract to help switch him over to them. He is claiming that it's extremely fast compared to TM and has no upload/download limits.

Huh? The buggers! When i complained about how slow the satellite Internet was they told me I was being choked down for excessive use. I asked to see my usage and they couldn't give it to me. This wasn't wireless through them, it was satellite Internet and cost me $69 a month for the most basic package.

There are different packages you can purchase. The speed on the basic packages is terrible. The more you pay the faster it gets.

I used Xplornet wireless for about 4 years. I found it very reliable (only 2 interuptions in 4 years) but their speed got slower & slower due to too many people signing up and sharing the system around me. My 1.5 meg/sec download package averaged about 0.5 meg/sec of the past 2 years according to a couple of speedometer programs. Their service dept. was very slow to respond on the 2 occasions I called them out - about 2-3 weeks to show up after many phone calls. The final straw was a few months ago when their antenna on my roof died (they own it - I rent it) and they were going to charge me for the service call. I called Albertacom and they came out the next day and hooked me up quickly. The down load speed off Albertacom's wireless tower averages 1.7 meg/sec and I can actually view most of the movies that you guys post on this site without any stalling. I used to wait 20 seconds for every 10-15 seconds of video that xplornet gave me. If Xplornet is all that is available in your area, it is still many times better than dial up. By the way, my daughter has a telus stick and she said it is almost as slow as dial up.

I found out that this wireless ISP named (SIS Systems) is now available in my area supposedly. Has anyone else used this ISP? If so, how was the service?

Yep and the price goes up with it. The top Sat package (1.5mg) was $200/month.
