Default Tell me about stabilizers...

I have been getting back in to bow shooting and hunting over the past few months after about a fifteen year hiatus. I used to be heavily into it but after that amount of time I have forgotten almost everything.

My shooting has been pretty darn good considering the length of time it has been since I shot a bow regularly. I am looking to tighten up my groups and be a bit more steady. So what am I looking for as far as stabilizer for a hunting bow? Are they easy to decide on or is it a complex science in choosing one?

I had one around from my old shooting days that I thought I could try but I must have thrown it out or gave it away years ago

Thanks in advance for any advice you can pass my way!

Default Gotta try em

Take your bow into a shop with a range where you can shoot trying a number of stabilizers. Some will feel better than others. I just got into bows this year, and it has been helpful to have a good shop that opens packages for you and lets you try before you buy, just to see what works for you!

That is kinda why I was asking, to see if I could figure out what I needed and pick it up online. Maybe not...

Well, due to time constraints and not being able to make it the the archery shop anytime soon I headed out to the shop when I got home tonight. I figured I would do a quick experiment, what can it hurt? I turned out this stabilizer, 13 oz's and I will keep taking off or drilling out metal till it feels right. So far it feels good, much more stable than without one.

It took me ten minutes to make and ten to paint(yes, it shows ). It might end up being a huge time saver as well as helping me steady myself out a bit when shooting...

Hopefully...
