The load data was for 150 grain bullets, that is all my gun likes. And we are positive it was 4831 not 4350. The seating depth was a tad longer than factory.

You're one Lucky man!!...tho,,,Something don't quite seem right!...according to my manuals you're more than a grain or two over max.....4 of em actually. My Hornady Handbook V3 lists 54.1gr of IMR 4350 as MAX...for 150 gr Bullet..2900fps
54.5gr of IMR 4831 as MAX...for 150 gr Bullet..2800fps

Lyman 46th ed...only shows H-4831...no IMR 4831 at all for 270 loads....while it has most of the other IMR's listed as suitable...ie.IMR..3031,4064,4895,4320,4350,

Lyman 48th ed...shows IMR 4350...52gr MAX for 150 bullet
IMR 4831...54.3 MAX for 150 bullet
H-4831...56.0 MAX for 150 bullet

NOSLER V6 doesn't even show IMR 4350 or IMR 4831 for the 150 gr bullet. It shows both of those powders for the 140 bullets and again for the 160 grainers...go figure!!......however, it does show H-4831...55gr MAX over 150 bullet.

We used an old Hornady volume 2 printed in 1973, the first two loads with 4350 shot well, and so did the first three of the 4831. From wha the guys at wss said the 4831 in the book was Imr, but from what im reading on here it was probably H-4831

Why is it that some people assume that every load listed in every manual will be safe in their rifle?why do you suppose that the manuals(hornady included) suggest that you start low,and work up while watching for pressure signs?it's because the people writing the manual can't take into account variations in lots of powder,or cases,or differences in the dimensions of various barrels and chambers.

The loads given in a manual, are safe in the gun used to develop them, but they may not be safe in other guns, for the reasons previously mentioned.each gun is different, and lots of powder do vary, and even substituting a different bullet or brand of case or primer, can result in a dangerous situation.

The bottom line,is that if you want to be safe, reduce the maximum loads by at least 5% if using identical components, and a little more if substituting another bullet, case or primer.
.
Amen to that
