Northern New Mexico should not be slept on! Just got back from a 6 day trip and had a fantastic time. Hit up a new creek/river everyday and caught in the double digits no problem. Was able to get 4/5 species for their trout challenge. Just missing the Gila trout but it was a 7 hour drive south from where I was….. guess I have to go back!

No didn’t come across any elk. Ran into a bow hunter there that was hunting. I guess it was their first week of archery season there. I probably scared all the elk in the valley when I lost my best cutt of the trip haha
This looks amazing, I'm jealous! I had a road trip planned to Northern New Mexico a few years ago and covid cancelled those plans. I'm guessing you fished some of the streams I had on my list as they look familiar. Glad you enjoyed it and caught plenty of fish!
Fishing for Rio Grande Cutthroats caught my attention after doing the Wyoming Cutt-slam on a road trip the year prior. If you haven't done it I would recommend it as it looks like you enjoy checking out new areas and catching new species.

Around that Covid time frame I had trip planned to do the Wyoming slam actually haha Thinking of going back to NM to get my Gila then hopping over the border to Arizona to do their challenge.

If you get a chance, try out the Green River in Utah. You owe it to yourself
