Default St Mary Res

Hi guys,

I'm out here, been fishing for a few hours now and got one small walleye - my first.

I'll be honest - I don't even know what I'm fishing for here. Does anyone know what the predominant fish in this lake is?
Any kind of tips would be wonderful. I'll be out here until dark.

Thanks

Go up the lake by the Hutterite colony. On the opposite side of the lake you will see on a hill top an old vehicle.

Jig around there and you should be able to hook into a few keeper walleye

And as always on a new to you lake pay attention to what other boats are up to. You may also want to bottom bounce

Another great place is also at the far end at the spill way. Great walleye fishn and you may also hook into the odd white fish.

GOOD LUCK

I got another walleye, but forgot to take a picture. Too small to keep, this one I measured at 17". Unfortunately the 2 lures I caught the fish with have been left attached to a couple weeds at the bottom of the resevoir.

Tomorrow I will be trying a couple spoons before I pack up and head home.

Out again this weekend. Weather has been wonderful and the water temperature is so good for swimming - 75⁰

Got into my first pike yesterday, what a fun fish. I see why people love fishing them! They are also decidedly delicious.

28" pike in the picture (kept). Caught a couple more keepers around the 25" mark. They got to go home.

Hooked up into a bunch of walleye as well, but they were all under legal size by an inch or two. Most of them measured in the 16" range. I stopped checking them.

Next trip I will be hunting for summer whitefish. Sounds like they will be tricky to locate, and even harder for me to catch since it will be another first for that species.

The whites will be hanging around the spill way if it is still flowing, if not go past the hutterite colony to the mouth of the river if it is flowing.
