Pretty straightforward to do yourself unless you want something really artistic.

Just a regular black synthetic stock? What did you have in mind, Gramps?

Never done textured paint, but a nice upgrade over a plain black stock is pretty easy.

Takes way more wear and abuse than you'd think, too.

I had a Tikka T3 stock, hydro dipped. I am VERY impressed with the results. (Winter camo). The one my son hand painted for me, though very exotic, has not stood up well, with the passage of time.

I did a tikka 595 synthetic stock with the textured rock looking stuff. Then bunch of coats of clearcoat. Turned out well
Can’t remember the brand but still have some left in the can somewhere around here

Thinking about re-doing mine, enough that I bought paint. PM me if you like, we can discuss further.

2 brand-new cans should be plenty enough for 2 stocks. I have the Rust-Oleum 2x primer also.

I'm in Red Deer, if you like the textured Desert Tan/FDE look. I come down to YYC regularly.

FWIW, I sprayed clearcoat over the current paint job. Hence the glossy appearance.

Rustoleum makes a great non slip epoxy clear that will provide grip over any paint or colour scheme. I have painted a few Tikka Tupperware stocks and they’re holding up nicely after a couple years of use.

These work great!

Cut a sponge in half and dab it on.

Get a base color, the sponge on the pattern. Great youtube video on it if you search it up.

A business here in the Hat but unfortunately he is now out of business. I believe another shop opened up but I am not sure. Google hydro dippers I am sure something will pop up.

I believe that Steve with EM Precision in Spruce Grove does hydro-dipping.

They don't work so great when you mix brand-names... You get horrible reactions, best to stick with one brand.

I've yet to have an issue with any delamination. If you do your prep work properly, sand everything, let the paint cure, you come out with a pretty good product for a home job.

This is one of the videos I watched prior to doing my own.

Mitch Kendall is probably the best stock painter in the country. He uses epoxy based paints and the quality of his work and durability of the product is better than I have ever seen.

I spent ~$45 on Gramps73's stock, using rattle-cans*... Not $100/Litre epoxy and a $1000+ air & paint-gun setup.

If he's happy and it lasts more than a couple seasons, I'm happy...

* and he can go get touch-up paint at Walmart or Canadian Tire instead of a custom repair/sending his stock away.
