Default Anyone know what this is?

We were hiking up Mt. Burke yesterday in the Cataract Creek area and came upon this attached to one single tree in the area (the tree was flagged). The area is actively being logged though not this close to the campground. I presume it's some kind of bug trap (not pine beetle, that much I know).

Anyone know? I'm just curious...

Thanks in advance.

Peter

Pine Beatle trap unless I'm mistaken. I've seen similar on the Ya Ha.

Someone told me it wasn't as he has had them in his backyard... Maybe it's another type...

Thanks

Likely what he had was a beetle deterrent pheromone bag. Kind of a big patch stapled to the tree.

Pretty sure it’s where skip leaves the pizza for the new age hunters so it stays warm

Looks like it's a data logger with an inexpensive radiation shield as a cover. Likely collecting data on micro climate and temp

Yeah, I'm baffled.

Maybe a Samsquatch dating portal where they leave scents and if compatible they meet up in the woods?

That's a farting post. They keep the wet-naps in that box.
