Anyone been into Winefred Lake Lodge this year?

That appears to be the case but is this one of those titles that comes with a participation trophy or did you have to earn it

Or is it like being PM of Canada where you can really suck at what you do and nobody thinks you are doing a good job but you have a cool title

Don’t take this post seriously just poking fun nothing more. There was an opening so I had to take the shot

The Lodge does not allow you to launch unless you are staying there at their over inflated prices.

Paul however does, and he is now charging $60 to launch, and $25 a day to park. Hardly worth it. His cabins are no longer $80 a person per night, but instead $400, $500, or $650 per night regardless of the amount of people.

I went this spring and could barely launch. The water level is so low, if there was even a slight breeze your boat is smashing off the bottom of the lake.

Does the $400 -$650 room come with a guided fishing trip ?

We have had a pile of rain, I am picking the road in, wont be very good until it dries, and a grader makes a few passes, bring spare tyre's.
Cant speak for the fishing, but intend to get into grist for a look later this summer.

Default Winefred

$400-650 does not include a guide. Basic cabin only, outside washroom/ outhouse. Separate shower building. Nothing special

Reading these post is enough to make me never want to fish that lake. Seems like a money grab and every year you hear more and more about this place slipping. Pretty sad of you ask me !!

Yup the fishery itself interests me but unless there is public access I can drop in my kayaks I won’t waste the fuel to drive there

The cost these outfits are charging are not worth it. I get better accommodation on good fisheries in Sask and Ontario.

100% just drive to meadow lake and catch just as big pike and walleye you can actually keep and eat.

That seems to be the word. I don’t care about distance but it sounds like dragging a trailer with kayaks would be a bad idea

Oh well lots of other lakes in this country

Having been into that launch a couple of times I finally gave up and started paying Paul if I wanted to go. Haven't been in a number of years now, and no plans to really go back either. I can get just as good of fishing without having to leave a paved road hardly even in this province so no need to give away any extra money IMO...

I wouldn’t recommend anyone try make it to the public launch with all the rain we’ve been having.

Pay Paul if you want to go to winefred or go to Saskatchewan if you want a cheaper option. Not sure why every year this turns into a bitch fest.

Some new duratracs, Jack with blocking, and a come-along. We should be good. I’m sure things will be fine if we take our time.

Good luck. I came into Paul’s on Monday and it was pretty greasy. Couldn’t imagine heading to the public launch this year, although it’s been over 20 years since I’ve done it so my memory of it might be worse than reality. Have fun fishing.

Why do you guys bother with that dump when there is 100s of lodges in Sask that are better with good access and limits??

Could you please recommend some, I live close to Lac La Biche. I would travel to some spots in Sask if I thought they were close enough, and affordable, etc. I would take my own boat, etc. Can't argue about better limits! Not looking for an argument, just some insight! I have been going to this lake since 1993, did not go last year though.

Maybe you are right! I should explore fishing Lac La Biche lake, cannot keep any pike there. Can't keep any pile at Winefred either, but still fun to catch them, and release. I have only fished in LLB lake once, it's a huge lake, has to be some huge pike to catch !

You would surely catch some Northerns. Odds are you will catch some nice walleye and the odd perch as well. We landed a few really nice Gators.. One broke 40". The boat launch at WCP is fantastic and you don't have to go far to get into fish. Good luck out there!

No problemo... I've fished there in June, July and August past years. Tends to slow down in August but now is pretty decent. Sorry for the Hijack.. I have also fished Winifred on many occasions but not recently. Things were starting to get out of hand the last time we were there. Great fishery for sure... Arm and a leg to camp, launch and fish now it seems. Better options out there in my honest opinion. Cheers!
