Default Apex Rocky Mountain Challenge 2 Day PRS Match - Jul 13-14 Calgary, AB

I don't know if you you're aware, but we at Apex Optics are hosting the Apex Rocky Mountain Challenge PRS 2 Day Match just south of Calgary (between Diamond Valley and Millarville)!

It's the first sanctioned PRS Pro Series match in Canada since the 2021 Canadian Sharpshooter Classic, and we're thrilled to bring PRS officially back to Canada! You do NOT need to be a member of the PRS to shoot this match.

This is going to be an incredibly fun event, with a fun and extremely well balanced course of fire. The goal is to make sure that everyone is making lots of impacts, whether this is your first match ever, or your fiftieth, while at the same time having a few stages that will challenge the top shooters in the field.

We have most of the top shooters in Canada already signed up, and a bunch of guys from the U.S. are making their way up as well, which is very exciting.
People tell us all the time that Canadian shooters are not as good as the Americans, and I think that in the last few years we've closed that gap significantly. I fully expect that we're going to have a Canadian take the top spot!

All in all it's going to be a great community event, with a beer/pop/water garden with music on the Friday after check-in and zero range time (after all the guns are put away), and a Saturday evening social with a live band (at the Millarville Race Track Hall) and catered BBQ dinner + cash bar.

Totally unfamiliar with the format. How many shots and at what distances? What type of targets? Any info would be appreciated

Its best to youtube it to see the format. IPSC with a long gun is the best way to explain it.

Do you think it may be prudent to announce events such as this a little earlier than the day before? Many people actually have to plan in advance to attend these things.

It's 30 days out right now, but the event has been on the schedule and announced since November, we just realized that we didn't post it on things like these forums yet.

It's basically Dynamic Long Range, with targets anywhere between 350-1200 yards, shooting from anywhere from Prone position, modified prone, to shooting off obstacles or "props" as we call them. Most props are man-made, some are natural like fallen logs or giant boulders, etc. All targets are steel targets off of hangers, most at long distance have flashers or hit indicators on them usually, and range officers to give you a briefing on each stage and make sure you're handling your firearm properly and safely. Expected round count is about 200-215 rounds for the weekend.

Here's a video from a PRS match from 2022, the K&M AG Cup Qualifier.
This should give you an idea on equipment and props that are typically used, but there's lots of creativity involved in props across all matches.
