This is pretty simple....

Early in the thread it seems the 12 gauge is one method of magpie dispatch. Living in the city, a firearm is not an option.
What are your preferred methods; ringing the neck, blunt trauma, drowning....oh yeah and I don't own a Jack Russel.... lol..
Cheers,

There’s an idea, I’ve never seen a magpie decoy before. I did notice that a magpie in the trap attracted its brethren to join it, so I’m patient with their removal until the population is peaking. On occasion I’d neutralize the ones the wouldn’t get in the trap, but were hanging out on top of it. A trap full of ‘pies entices more to join the party.
I can’t imagine what the racket would have been like with 5 or 6 of those noisy birds caged when the dog was in there!

I'm curious to see what that looks like!
When I'm not using mine, it kind of gets in the way. It would be nice to have an effective trap that I can stow away when I don't need it...

My dog does not like them. They tease the dogs and swoop and almost "play games" with them.
Every once in a while .... one of them screws up .........then it's quiet for a week or two around here .....

Cleaning up my pole barn the last few days & spotted a crab trap I had when I lived in QCI.
Sure looks like it would work for Magpies.... would need a couple holes wired shut.
Pick up only , if someone wants to give it a go ?

Reviving an old thread instead of making a new one on the same topic...
What do the experts think ? Staged or a new magpie trap ?

They are smart birds and what they are doing is having a wake. And yes that displaying their buddy, takes care of your problem for months...

Will have to make one. Had a crow nest in a big tree. I don't think they are coming back. But magpies will.
