Default Help me scope my 7mm-08 please

Well, I am in the process of working up a load on my new to me Tikka T3 7mm-08. It came with a Burris Fullfield E-1 3-9 scope. I would like to put a decent glass on it and do not know what I want as usual. All of my hunting is done over large open fields where it can be hard to get close and sometimes in blinds. Elk and deer are what I hunt.Weight is not an issue.Shots can be close along tree lines and bush and as well most are out in the fields up to 400 yards +.
I don't have a real budget, but would like to keep it reasonable with best value for dollar.
What would you consider.?
Thanks and Happy New Year to all.

Swarovski Z3 3-10×42, or Z5 3.5-18×44, if you prefer more magnification.

I run a Leupold Freedom 3-9x40 on mine and had a CDS dial built by Korth for my pet 7-08. It will do anything you are looking for and more. Nice and light, and won't break the bank.

If you don’t mind the weight a NF SHV 3 -10x42 with the MOAR reticle is very nice, I have a few and they are pretty good. My zeiss are very clear as well.

Swarovski z5 2.4-12 x50
Leupold vx5 hd 3-15x44 or 2-10x44
zeiss v4 - they have a few options in the 3-12 and 4-16 range that would be good.

If you are going to use it at the range and dial it a lot my 1st choice would be Zeiss.

Leupold has a great eye box.

Swaro has great glass and the 50mm objective would be great for sitting in a blind watching the edge of bushes at first and last light.

I am sure the are lots of other options too. But I think the "nicer" scopes start around $1500 and go up from there.

I have a Nightforce Compact 2.5-10 on my 7mm-08. Its there because it's durable and repeatable and that rifle gets carried alot. Use to have a 2.5-8x36 which is nice and light but the short mounting area didn't work well for my eye relief on the Kimber.
I have a Leupold vx5 3-15 on my Barrett Feildcraft - Great eye box, simple reticle. Scope looks a little large on that rifle. Dials don't compare with the nightforce.

Another vote for the swaro Z3 3.0-10x40. I have one with the BRH reticle on my 7mmX300 works great and sits nice and low on rifle. I can shoot a decent group with it at 300M also on a proper sized target very versatile scope.

This right there. My son has one on his 7mm-08, and I have the same scope on 2 of my rifles, as well as one waiting for a custom build in 280 AI.

Good clarity, eye relief, repeatability, no issues at all. Great glass.

I have a Leupold VX3i 3.5-x40 CDS for sale. Have the original box, didn't see much use but it's a great scope for a hunting rifle. I upgraded my 300 saum scope and put this on top of my 204 and zeroed it. Message me and I can send you some pictures or a link.

I put a VX3 2.5-8x36 on mine and I feel it is the perfect scope for the rifle.

IMO at least a 12x when on full magnification. I personally like as much magnification I can get. I love my 4.5-30x bushnell.

I have the exact scope on my 6.5x55. I do not feel hindered at all! IF I were to upgrade it would be with a Sightron in 2.5-10 or the 4-16 variant.

- Sightron rifle scopes, 4.5x14x42mm or 4x16x42mm

I’m running a VX3i 3.5-10x40 on my Weatherby 7-08Rem
I sent in my ballistic info to Korth and got a custom dial for it just incase you want to shoot past 300 yards.

From your previous posts, your shooting seems to be fine, so why not try the Fullfield and see how that works out. It is a pretty good scope (I had one and sold it to a member here because it didn’t meet my needs). Otherwise, since you are not walking around much anyway, I’d probably go with a Zeiss Conquest. Swaros are awesome and light. Leupold VX3i are light as well, but they do not measure up to Swaros. Zeiss are pretty heavy, but they are better, imo, if you are not walking miles with it.

Wink

I would just keep the scope it has as it’s not that bad of a scope.
But that’s not fun

I recently purchased a Leica Amplus 6 in 3-18X44 from Prophet River that I could not be happier with. The glass is amazing, it's MUCH closer to my Minox ZP5 than it is to my Leopold VXIII. To my eye, the glass it's significantly better than the Zeiss Z3 and Conquest HD5, and better than the Z5. The eyebox is large and forgiving, there are several reticle options available, it's relatively light, and they get excellent reviews for durability and holding zero.

If you're in the Swarovski/Zeiss area code for price, take a look at the Leica, it's not as common, but I think it's better than both of them...

I would definitely agree glass wise. To my eye, Leica has the best glass that I looked through personally. Leupold VX3 wouldn’t even compare (I actually haven’t seen a Leupold that would compare, imo, but I never looked through anything better than a VX5HD). Price wise though, Amplus is about double the price of a Conquest V4 ($1,800+ vs $900-1,000?). At least that was the case the last time I checked and that was a while ago. If the price difference is that minimal nowadays, I’d go with Leica over Zeiss and it would be an easy decision. Weight is about the same for both scopes, but both are on the heavy side and I wouldn’t put either of them on a “carrying rifle”, ie the one I walk with all day. In case of the latter, it would be a Swarovski in that price range, or Leupold for a cheaper option and likely my choice (had a VX3i on my “carrying rifle” until recently, but replaced with a FX-3 because the VX3i was needed elsewhere).

Overall, it is really kind of hard to go wrong once you pick a price range you are comfortable with. Unless some type of clearance with a significant discount, there are only very few brands I’d be looking at personally. Pretty sure they were all mentioned in this thread. There are probably other brands to consider, but things are pretty expensive and I prefer to stick to what has been proven to work for a long while.

Go with the Sightron s-tac series or nightforce shv. Can’t go wrong. Good deals used on cgn.

I’ve been eyeing up one of these or the 2-10 model. They have great reviews and look like a pretty good value for dollar scope. Not a huge fan of the grip on the magnification ring, though.
