Default Banged up Bullet Tips

I have a winchester XPR in 300 win mag. I go and sit at my spot then put a round in and put the gun on safe. When I take the Cartridge out, , I frequently notice that the tip of the bullet is either chipped or dented in some way. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Do you think changing the ammo brand would "fix" it (It has happened with Herters and Winchester Deer Season) or does the gun need to be worked on? I thought it was because of the magazine, but I had that replaced and am still having the same issue.

Just shoot it, it doesn’t make any difference worth worrying about, it’s not like your shooting a half mile or something.

So what you are saying is when you chamber a bullet and then just pull it out ,it is damaged ?

I know on some of my guns, after I firer a shot the bullets in the clip move forward from recoil and they get flattened out .

A sightly damaged tip won't make much difference to your point of impact, but I hear you. No one like ugly bullets. If you have a Dremel tool, just cut the lead tip of and carry on.

Isn’t this how Nosler marketed the Ballistic Tip in the day?

Don’t like the feeding induced damage to your bullets, either single load them by hand, or move to a polymer insert type bullet. I’d say TTSX/LRX for your cartridge.

Partitions are bad for getting deformed tips. I’ve shot a lot of moose with them and the moose didn’t seem to mind the tip was a little wonky.

Was sued by Dominion/Imperial for stealing the plastic tip [Sabre Tip]idea to prevent recoil damage in the mag during live fire.

Tip is damaged from contacting "the walls" on its way into the chamber. A steep feed ramp, recoil, even extraction can cause tip damage. Just shoooot em' the critters will never know.

I always kind of wondered how it didn't make it into the Remington lines before Nosler grabbed it, believe it was pre IVI, when Dupont still owned both plants and brands. I don't remember ever seeing a plastic tip on Rem stuff anyway, I could be wrong though. Believe Nosler put it on the solid bases to start with? Seems to me I was using them in mid 80's or so. I know I bought sabre tips for my 7RM or 270Win, that was 1969-70ish as I remember.

The walls? Try edges. Bullet tip damage on feeding generally means poor feeding.

I shot Nosler Partitions for years and still do.

The flattening of the tip is from the magazine box in recoil. There is nothing to worry about, they work fine.

Aesthetically speaking, they may not look as pretty as the tipped ones but they still do the job.

Default Rem bronze points

40 years ago a buddy shot a big bodied 3x3 mulie in front of the shoulder/base of the neck with a .270 130gr. Dropped like he was tasered ....found his neck shattered full length and the bronze tip in his eyelid.

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Without shooting, the bullet gets ejected with a damaged tip. From what it sounds like though, it doesn't affect accuracy.

I had an interesting conversation this morning with one of my father's colleagues from back in the day.
Thus gentleman worked for both C.I.L. and Remington at one time before starting his own company.

He was at the shot show thc year that C.I.L. sysrt3d marketing tbe Saber Tip, and told me that the Nosler reps were asking a pile I'd question s about them!
When I asked him if the CPE/ Bronze Points had any correlation at all, he told me that he could not recall any agreements , etc when it came to thd two bullets.

He did tell me that they interviewed a great number of hunters from both the East and West about te performance, and the results were much same back then as they would be now- either loved or hated for the same reasons people give now when it comes to hunting bullet performance when speaking about a particular bullet , with mostly samples of one given! LOL
