Crawling update
Launch's are fine, no depth issue with launch or retrieve. But reservoir is about 1.5 m below "normal" water mark on dock piles.
2.5 foot of water in the centre of the exit channel, we waited for a few boats to exit then entered our boat to pull out. About 2ft under sounder at side of channel found this out unintentionally.
Too bad everyone can't be a little considerate, big pontooner decided to come out when we were 1/2 way. No issue but really didn't need to get that shallow ( 2 feet as above) with prop. Mini rant over!
Fishing was fair for us but seemed it was over at 9;30, a dozen or so mixed bag to hand. Bigger Wally's were early about 8 or so when we got on water.
Bring bug spray, biting deer fly thingy's a pain as the temperature rises.

"oilngas" He nailed it. Some people figure they are more important. I always wait even when level is up. What ever. D-wads.
Had a great few days, lots of eyes and only couple toothy critters. Best time was 8 to 11 and after 5pm till 7. Enjoy while you can. I hope to be back out in the middle of Sept. for another week

I was out September 11 and the conditions were great. A slight breeze at times to ripple the water but mostly the water surface was like glass. I counted 5 boats on the water.
We did well for both pike and walleye...22 in total.
No problem on the boat ramp, it could use a quick sweeping but overall good. The canal water to the lake is low so stay in the middle.
The gate now opens at 8:00am and the staff was courteous as always.
As for actual boating, you and your fishing buddy both, need to have your head on a swivel and the gravel bars come up fast with no warning. I am shocked at how many there are.
The weeds are bad but that is where the fish are...
Enjoy

Will be out this Monday till Friday. Camp and fish. 17 Ft. Sylvan.
Seems like if you go west past the point on the west side or further north than that you will get the bars. Power down and putt around going west. It does get somewhat deeper until you get to the far northwest arm. Good fishing for a 12ft aluminum, if the levels are there. Should be fairly quiet for boats on the lake next week. It's a great lake to fish in spring and fall when there is less traffic on the lake.
The water level is way down so keep one eye on the sonar/gps and another on the water.
Made it out for a day earlier this week. Beautiful day ....... very little wind and temps in mid 20's. Took a few pics.
Not the smallest pike I've ever caught but it's getting there. Size 0 Len Thompson.
I don't think it was trying to eat that lure.
Seems like the walleye have a taste for the mini pike. Two lb walleye with a little pike. Greedy walleye still went after my lure.
Dust devil at the north end. There were a couple of 'em. Picture doesn't do it justice.

Not something you see every day. From June of this year.
Thought it was someone's dog swimming across the marina canal by the lighthouse. Kinda surprised when we got closer and it made its way out of the water. Soaking wet badger.

Put the boat in the water about 1:30 this afternoon. Lots people loading and unloading. Launch is good. They did a good job of making it long into the water. No problem with my 17 ft. Marina is at least 5 to 6ft deep. 7 in spots. Channel is 2 -2.5 and in a small part 1.7. Stay in the middle. One at a time or your asking for big motor problems. My transducer is at least a ft under the water anyways. Tilt up the big engine and your fine. Big engines need to go out a ways before power up. Once out pin it north or around the damn. Lots people fishing. I just made a run and back in. Parked in slip and be out tomorrow camping for the week. The weather was good cloudy with some 12-20 gusts kph wind and some small chop. No whitecaps. Doable in the smaller 12 ft'rs.
Hi of 26 to 27 c. Stay safe everyone.

Yup and Tuesday was even worse I think. Never went out. Crazy waves. I can handle it but not worth the hassle. Good day Wednesday for sure. Some chop but all good. 5 pike and 4 walleye trolling. I do not sit in one spot. Burn fuel LOL. Thursday even better. 9 Pike all around 24 inch but got one close to 30-28in for sure. 4 walleye 18-20, thick and healthy. Go figure on a shiny blue and red rattle & rap 3 inch. Caught from 10 till 3 trolling by myself. Water was flat not even a ripple. Marina channel was same, 1.7 - 2.5 keep big engine up, stay in middle all good. Camped for the week and some good fires in the morning to take the chill off and some early evening fires to wind it down. Done I think for the season at CVR cause in another week they shut all access down to the lake till freeze up.

Can you still launch
I was going to go out on Monday and try to fill my Walleye tags.
I only have a 14' aluminum on a trailer. Would I still be get it in the water?
Or is it not possible if the camp ground closes.

The last day that the launch is open is on the 30 of Sept.
A lady from EID checked my papers when I drove into the campground. She said that the EID had just started to refill the reservoirs. She didn't know how much they expected to raise the water level this fall.
Last day for me at CV. Today's fishing was very good when there were small waves on the lake. Things slowed down a bit for us when the wind died. Beautiful day.
Heading in for the last time this year. Travelling at 30mph but it looks like we're standing still.
Will be fishing McGregor and some of the other reservoirs for the month of October.

Yesterday, Sept 28, was my last trip out.
Beauty day, a little breeze at times but overall good.
It was slow in the morning but we made up for it in the afternoon. The pike were absolutely voracious. We caught a lot in that 17" to 24" range and they all hit hard and fought right up to the boat. The walleyes were hungry as well.
Like fishing all pike, we fished the outer edge of the weeds. It didn't matter what we threw at them everything was working.
All in all a great day for the last time out.....
Oh yes, BE AWARE OF THE PROTRUDING ROCKS....MORE NOW THAT EVER.

Can ya still get a boat in at McGregor? Would still like to get out for another fall fishing time. Which other reservoirs would be able to launch at ya figure? Got a 17 ft Sylvan. Love your pic at 30 mph. I'm drooling LOL. Wish I could still figure out how to put some pics on here. I got a couple awesome sunset pics coming in late off CVR for the last time. Will try and figure out again. Would be so easy to just cut and paste or just add. Not have to go thru another site and move. Not computer savvy so much or me mind is getting lazy. Oldtimers!! I know imgur works but didn't last time I tried. Did get some Sturgeon pics on here though.

I have 14' tinner on a trailer.
I know the campsite is closed, but I looked on Google Maps and it looks like there are a couple places on the westside where the trails are very close to the lake.
I was wondering if anybody has tried, with or without success accessing or launching a boat there?

Ya better check with EID if your even allowed to put your boat in anywhere on the lake. They have all the rights to manage the reservoir. Once the campground is closed they say no one is there to check the boats. Not sure if they can stop you from any other access around the lake. 25 years ago we use to put our 12 ft tinners in at the north west arm close to the colony. The road use to go right to the lake. No trailer though. Was some good walleye fishing then.

Launching in CVR
Hey Mark! If you haven't already gave us a call and spoke with someone, the only place to launch trailered watercraft on Crawling Valley Reservoir is within the campground. So unfortunately at this time there are no locations to launch trailered watercraft.
