I've owned one for quite a while now, the older Travel 1003 outboard which we put on on larger squareback canoe.
Pros:
- It's fairly quiet and powerful.
- Even with the battery, it's fairly light.
- The larger battery has pretty decent battery life
- It's got lots of technology built into it: LCD display has battery life, speed, power consumption etc., kill switch and "key", tilt-up, tiller lock etc...
- Modular: The motor can be separated into three parts: battery module, tiller handle and the rest of the motor.
Cons:
- Not great value I think - it's now somewhat too expensive. When I bought it, it was about half the price that it is now for the equivalent model
- Over-engineered. The design seems pretty clever but it would be better if it were more "basic" and durable. It will even give you engine error codes if the connectors are not on properly but the code you get on the water is like 'E07' or something like that so difficult to know what's wrong. Even the connectors would have been better if they used a simpler plug - Eg. Because of the plug design, it can be very fiddly to attach the cables from the battery to the main unit sometimes.
- Too much plastic which affects durability - see comments above about "over-engineering". You have to be careful about rough handling -
- The info on the display can be hard to see sometimes.
