Default Whitecourt

The wife and i are so sick of Edmonton and spent most of the summer camping around whitecourt especially the windfall area. We came through last night stopped at Canadian tire and she says i could live here. I i check out realestates today. My question. Does anyone on here live there

I do not. It is a town with alot of industrial base, and alot of seasonal workers with forestry and logging.

It has top notch rec facilities.

It has a young population.

The so called "Estates" Trailer park is full of crime and drugs.

What more do you want to know?

You have seen it in the summer. How does it compare with other cities in the winter?

Does it not stink to high heaven because of the pulp mill?

Sure is a gateway to a lot of country where a lot of different past times can be had. And they have pretty much everything a big city has for shopping etc. I assume they have a Walmart but only ever drive through, never go into the bottom portion.

I would say , like most northern cities. The reality of living there is quite different than the reality of visiting on the weekend.

If you move there, understand that you are an "outsider". Every northern town has an old guard who run the town and are the Social Swirl.

If you want to be welcomed, join the Curling League, volunteer with Rotary, join a Slow Pitch Team, join the Chamber of Commerce, play GOLF and golf in the Tournaments, volunteer with the kid's hockey program.

In short order, you will be volunteering with the people who built the community, and you will be an "insider".

Then the Town will not be a lonely place.

LOL.
I live near a small town. Every year it seems they hire a new gung ho person to get new business into the town. Unfortunately that old guard doesn't want anyone setting up any new businesses and treat them like dirt. Been like that for as long as I remember, say at least 60 years now. I usually search out real friends.

All small towns are like that, you just need to make yourself fit in and you will be welcomed.

You really nailed it. I don't understand it. But you are right on. They are okay with a few restaurants, few grocery stores, gas stations and maybe a dollar store, drug store ,etc but OMG totally against anything that would create employment for young people or any kind of industry. Then scream for all kinds of services from the province.
Nobleford is exception. They are doing something right there. You might have to be dutch to live there though

Have a friend who moved there a few years ago. Says he hates it. The only thing he said was he thought it as dirty.

I was born and raised in Whitecourt 18 years. Moved to the city in 2005.

Its an ok place to raise a kid. Dahl Drive is good exercise. Be careful when you bike down the hill though. Make sure you have good brakes HAHA

Whitecourt is a good place to live if you like the outdoors. It has all the box stores you need, nice restaurants and arts.
There is also excellent fishing for all lake and stream species nearby. The rifle hunting season starts Nov 17. Also snowmobile capital and great quadding area.
