Need to ask you this also.
What would you prefer. A live aboard or shore based?
Shore based is cheaper. I feel the live aboard has faster access to fishing. The live aboard as mentioned has some self fishing opportunities after dark.
I found both option have lots of fish to catch. Live aboard has more tarpon I’ve found.
Food has been better on the live aboard. Lots of lobster on past trips.
Some live aboards include alcohol. I lost my mojito count.
Live aboards have rod rentals.
Gear I like is
2 - 8 weights floating for bones
1- 9 weight floating for permit
1- 10 weight floating for tarpon and cuda
1- 11 weight intermediate for tarpon
1- 12 weight for large tarpon if available
On the live aboards You can often troll off the reef with the larger rods and never know what bites from cubera snapper, grouper, jacks, pompano, sharks, cudas, tuna…
I tie my own flies. Most are very simple flies. Key is hook quality. Gamakatsu and Owners are my picks.
