Default Rainbows through the ice

Do rainbows from pot hole lakes taken in the winter have that muddy taste? This summer I was out at east pit and my rainbows tasted like mud. Do they taste like that in the winter? Ive heard cleanin them and freezeing them for a couple weeks gets rid of the muddy taste, what do you guys think.

Thumbs up Pot Hole Fish

The quality of fish is better in the winter time. The meat is a brighter pink and taste good. I heard that on way of of preparing the fish is soaking the trout in 2% milk to help absorb that muddy flavour.

Default mud

I cleaned some rainbows from a pothole lake (around Edmonton) last weekend and there stomachs contained alot of plant matter. I have also found alot of snails in them in the past so Im guessing that they ingest the plant as when they eat the snails. A guy might as well cook up a handfull of "seaweed" because thats what the end result tastes like. They are fun to catch and release and I have to do something until the deer start shedding their antlers.
