Take a load off Robbie
One of the greatest (imo) has passed on. This one hurts, I have been a fan of Robbie Robertson and the Band for as long as I can remember. Some of the best music ever made, you will be missed Robbie, rest in peace.

Yeah, he was awesome; they were awesome.
I came across this special on the APTN network called "Robbie Robertson: Once were Brothers". If you haven't seen it and get a chance to see it, I would highly recommend it. I was not as big a fan as some and I loved it. I've seen it two or three times already. Robbie does the narration. My favorite part was that anytime one of the other members moved on, Robbie would replace him with one of his Canadian buddies. One guy being interviewed talked about what kind of music they played. He said "nowadays, we refer to it as Americana". Americana is essentially 80% Canadiana. Sort of, as 4 of the 5 were Canadian. At the end of the show, Levon Helm has just passed and Robbie says "I'll see you on the other side". Anyway, great special.

The Band is one of my all time favorite groups. I saw the television special on the Band, and it was well done. Losing all of these great performers, reminds me of just how old I am.

I grew up listening to The Band as my Dad was & is a huge fan. His band also covered their tunes when I was a kid & they played local bars like the Crossroads & the Tradewinds. I'm sure he'll be watching "The Last Waltz" tonight.

I will meet you by the witness tree.
Powerful writer that sent me on a journey. A true loss.

The beginning of greatness.
Ronnie Hawkins and The Hawks in 1963.
Imperial Hotel, Grand Bend, Ontario
All members of what would become ‘The Band’ in 1968 are in the photo except for Garth Hudson probably behind Ronnie Hawkins.
(Left to right: Ronnie Hawkins, Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Jerry Penfound (Sax), Rick Danko and Richard Manuel.)

The passing of Robbie really hurt. Loved "The Band".
