Ok so last question, I think lol

So is it a requirement to pay for absolutely everything until child support and alimony is sorted or is a backpay decided or does it just start on a certain date?

Also say a guy makes 180k a year whats alimony and child support look like for that? I have tried different calculators but it says alimony also depends on child support etc.

Child support is a proportional amount
Spousal support can vary immensely
Talk to a lawyer

child support will be based on the delta between your annual income and hers, i hope she had a high paying job for your sakes....if 50-50 for the kids go forward

No she does not work currently. But will have to now. She was a EA at a school for 8 years and hasn't worked the past 2 for random reasons.

I have always been the main breadwinner in the house

I’d ask the lawyer about joint bank accounts and credit cards
She can rack them up and it half your problem
Bank accounts are even worse

This is what I learned when we made inquiries. Maybe some of the info will help you.

1. Monthly Child support amount payable is dependent on how many kids there are and your annual income only - that is if the children live with mom full time. ( if you have 1 kid that lives with mom full time - at 180 a year it’d be about $1550. Two kids with that income about $2500month. And so on. If the kids live with each of you 50/50- you would owe her your amount but she would then owe you some back based on her income. But if her income is $0 then regardless of where the kids live - your amount is your amount. Then there is also another type of child support that goes towards daycare, school sports etc. it’s based in both incomes and is to be paid over and above that monthly amount.

2. Spousal support will factor in child support payments. There is no specific chart like there is for child support. It will depend on how long you lived together and how finances were taken care of when together.

3. While separated awaiting for things to be settled - there is no mandatory law saying higher income earner must pay for all but she could ask for retro pay if everything is left for her.

Sorry that you are going through this. It can be a tough battle and I don’t wish it on anyone.

Don’t you mean alamony?
For child support now there’s just a chart that says if you made x amount last year, you pay y amount this year.

Now wouldn't it be nice if this would be taught in school instead of wokeness, to actually prepare kids for the real world.

Totally dependent, quit working 2 years ago but used to previous is often a tell. Are you sure you haven't been set up. Malcontent women will do that, especially if you have a large pay check, if they're smart you won't know the level of her malcontent if at all. Hopefully this isn't the case but you need to talk to a good lawyer openly yesterday, you seem naive in how much damage could be done to your life if you don't deal with this appropriately considering your income vs the lifestyle she has been accustomed to. You seem like a more than fair man who deserves a fair equitable legal settlement Think about it.

I've seen this scenario play out a few times in my life with friends and acquaintances. Either way it sounds like you will be paying a lot of money for a long time unless your ex is a fine upstanding lady that decides she needs to find a decent job and relief you of some all-i-money.

Wish you well..

When my ex & I split, I paid everything I would have if we were still together. Twice monthly child support, school clothes, ski passes, etc. The standard of living for both parties & the kids decreases significantly.

I would start paying by cheque a reasonable amount. The fact you've already given her everything means you might not really want good advice from guys who have healed the wounds. lol. Best of luck!!
