Default Farm Fair Edmonton

Anyone going?

Im thinking the simmental and short horn might be good to see.

It's always a good show.

I miss the Ranch Rodeo part mostly. Usually booked a couple of separate nights for it.

Going up Saturday for the Angus show. I haven't been there in a few years so I'm really looking forward to it.

I haven't been there since the CFR left. We used to enjoy the ranch rodeo, stock dogs, roping futurities, cow horses and trade show. The CFR in Red Deer isn't the same either.

What is left besides the cattle show?

Going Friday, courtesy of my insurance agency. Gather there is a special German pavilion, always interesting to see how those across the pond think.

Oh Crap, wrong event.

Not much. The "trade fair" portion of farm fair is next to zero. Those that do have items for sale did a great job but id say there is less than 12 booths that have gear or supplies for sale. This is almost exclusively a cattle show. A couple part owners from Texas with bulls (as expected). I was impressed by the Alberta ranches as they definitely are the majority and the animal quality is top notch.

They were cooling the place off pretty good though so dont show up in a t shirt.

Be sure to check out the Braunvieh cattle there! They are what we have and they are a great growing and docile breed.

Northlands has been successful at whittling down anything to do with ag. At their core they are an agricultural society but events like Farm Fair are a shadow of what they were. One gets the impression that if they could rid themselves of anything to do with livestock they'd be happy.

True. Having the rodeo split off wasn't a good thing. Farm Fair isn't in the long term plans for Northlands. When I was there last year was told that the old horse track and stands will be getting pulled out not too far down the road. There goes exhibitor truck/trailer parking and outdoor animal stalls for overnight.

I went to the Agri-Trade Expo in Red Deer yesterday, huge crowds and the latest innovations on display. Definitely worth the trip.

Edmonton doesn't want a bunch of smelly farmers driving on their pristine streets.

Red Deer loves us.

I spend my money there.
