Ya Ya I know that they can't be used any more, I just want it to place in front of the bar on the floor or hang it from a hook. Please help a guy out !! Thanx

I saw one in the Antique Mall in Old Strathcona on Gateway heading North. I think it was a #14, approximately 10" jaws complete with teeth, I think the price tag ws $200. They have displays from various dealers, If I remember as you walk in the door go straight ahead and it is in the lower dispaly case on your right, before you cross the aisle and head up stairs.

Bear Trap
Saw one in Prince George BC about ten years ago that was for sale. About $300 and must have been 3.5 feet long. Biggest damb thing I ever saw. Should have grabbed it. They are pretty cool !

Ya you should have grabbed it...last few bear traps I've seen have ranged from $500 up to well over a thousand but they sure are cool.

Sheephunter. Maybe Boland knows were to get one. Your friends with him arn't you ? I heard a bad rumour about him ! I heard that the marriage is over and he has to sell the place. I hope that's not true ! Don't like to see anyone going "split's vill". He does have a nice view from the top of the hill ! That place must be worth a pretty penny. I went there once a bunch of years ago and almost had to shoot his German Shepard. That dog was mental ! If the chain would have broke, it would have been pretty touch and go... and I do believe I most likely would have lost.

If you want to save some money just buy an old leghold trap and get a welder to weld on some teeth.Give it a paint job and throw it on the wall.

Seems to me, I saw them listed in the Halford Hide catalogue, around $300. don't think you're going to get one for less.

3 Sheep - You may have to get in line for one. A couple years ago my grandfather made one. It sold on his farm auction for $725. Everyone even knew it was a repro.
I cant remember but I believe the chain on the one in Edmonton isn't original. I will have to quiz my Pa about it.

Ya, saw one of the smaller bear traps in an antique shop in Moose Jaw on the weekend and the guy wanted $1,000. Think he was on crack but they are going up rapidly in price as are all antiques and collectibles. This shop used to be filled with bargains and is now more expensive than any of the Alberta shops I frequent.

It just seems to depend on the day and what people want to pay.

3 Sheep- My Father has a couple of old bear traps. He for sure has a #50, and maybe a #5. Traps are Newhouse. Both are orignal. They are in pretty good shape, I can send/PM you a photo if you are interested. He is looking for $650 per trap. May be too steep for what you want, but I thought I'd pass the info along. PM me if you require more information.

I thought some might like this little bit of nostalgia.
My Uncle Reuben asked me if I'd like to have his bear trap this spring.
He used it back in the early 30's to get this bear. It was wreaking havok on the local school and even kept the teacher in the school overnight. He had to use his 44 to finish it off.
Then:
Now, at 97!
Sorry but it's not for sale, but you idea for putting in the den is great!

Very nice trap
You really do not want to know how many thousands of dollars that trap is worth. Keep it safe where it will not rust further and do not clean it. Keep those pictures with it they are awsome and will increase the value.

HUH!? Did you type thousands?????? I really actually do want to know what it is worth. It won't make a difference really as I am very sentimental about family items and will never sell it but curiousity has got me here...
I sure wish he still had his old 44 and 1899 Savage still as he would have given them to me too. His old .22's are of my most cherished items too, especially when I get the stories behind them from 'the man' who used them.
But that's another story......

Does anyone know where 3 Sheep went? Has he been discomunicated, or exiled? He isn't in the member list.......
If anyone knows how to get ahold of him I may have found a trap for him.
Thanks,
Noel

I sold one about a month ago to a fellow in the states for $3800 and had an offer for $4000 the same day. If I had taken the time to advertise I was told I could get $5000 for it. Didn't realy want to sell it but I need a new atv for the trapline more than the bear trap at the moment. I only paid $600 a couple of years ago so I can't complain. My wife was upset when I bought it until I pointed out what it was actually worth. LOL Jim
