Well, there are some experts out there, who think a .300 Mag is minimum. You'll do well.

Probably reviving an old thread but a .308 is a very powerful round, it will go through deer without an issue. It will take down any moose and elk without an issue. Those that say it's not powerful enough for moose or elk have no idea what they are talking about.

Yep. Reviving a ten year old thread. How do you even find a thread that old so you can reply to it? But you are correct as far as a .308 being a fine cartridge.

garbage
308 is garbage. A discerning rifleman would go 338 Fed in that case family.

Sometimes looking for something specific, I run into a random old thread and feel like commenting. Then I think “meh, whatever”
.308 will kill flat any game in Alberta. Probably don’t want to use on bison, but it would kill it. I have shot deer, elk, and moose with .243. All died.

Well, it's true the .338 Fed is the bomb, but won't disrespect the parent. Count me in on the .338 though.

This ten year old thread proves dumb questions aren't just a recent invention. Why would anyone bother answering a question this stupid let alone revive a tard question like this. These types of questions, and the idiocy of the General section are the reason I post less and less on here.

X2 It's one of the most popular cartridge's around or maybe is, asking about is like pulling your pants down asking your pecker what it's doing there.
There has to be something with more fizz to it to start a thread.

Well 10 years ago when this thread was started the op had a valid question. Now, ten years later the .308 is obsolete and is no longer adequate for deer. Today’s deer require some sort of 6.5 cal bullet to be harvested efficiently.

No no no, you use the 6.5 so the deer stop and laugh at you long enough to allow you to get a shot off

My first hunting rifle, 1958 Winchester Model 88 in .308 Win, was grandads gun. It has taken Whitetails, Mulies, Elk, Moose and Black bear. Scope was removed for restoration but it still has the original Weaver K4 and folding mount.

Have to agree. Less and less actual shooters, hunters sharing valuable interesting info on here every day....sometimes I wonder why I bother opening AO up everyday....

I know a certain Whitetail buck that doesn’t think much of the 308 after we bumped paths in the timber yesterday morning…
Bang…flop…

My grandfather shoot a 308 loaded with federal fusion 180 grains (great conststant moa load) In the last two hunting seasons he has taken two bull moose one at 300 yards and one at 200 and two wt bucks with the same load. All animals were complete pass throughs and nothing went more than 50 yards!!!!
200 Yard 50 inch bull ....biggest bodied moose I have ever seen.

WOW, GREAT MOOSE! Is that an Alberta moose or a Yukon moose? Glad to see your grandfather out in the bush enjoying himself!
I was recently watching a video comparing the .30-30, .308 vs a .30-06, the .308 and .30-06 were very comparable Cheers. N40
