Chuck , can you prime with the Forster press ? or is it a bit cumbersome and slower then hand tool ??

Did some load development for my 300 weatherby. 83-88.5 gr in half gr increments. H1000 and 180gr tsx. I’m new to reloading. Where should I go from here? My best groups were 83.5 and 85. The 83.5 looks very promising. I very well could of pulled the last shot. Although it is slightly bigger then the 85gr group. There is no vertical deviation. This is a factory rifle with no modifications aswell.

New press today. It’s an RCBS Summit.
Got it mounted. It needed some tweaking out of the box. Lots of slop in the mechanism. To be fair, the people who assemble these probably have never used one.
I just need a short trip out to IKEA in the morning to pick up another support leg. Other then that, it should be ready. One thing I’m going to have to get used to is threading the dies into the press. The design of the die slot on my Co-Ax makes for very fast die changes. This one…not so much. But that’s not why I bought it. This will mostly be used for de-capping and seating. Although, we’ll see how it compares to the Co-Ax’s free float design when I check bullet runout. I think the Forester will prevail.
So now…. I’m a three press kind of guy.

One good thing about getting older is that you forget stuff. Sometimes this can be a good thing.
A couple weekends ago, I cleaned out my ammo/powder cabinet and found 8lbs of H4350 I forgot I had along with $120 in my gun safe.

Got a new Whidden bushing die and seater set up and sized and primed 20 6mm Dasher Alpha Munitions brass to test in rifle once get it back from smith.
The little small rifle primers seat a whole bunch better if their not on their side. Ha

Going to mount a new to me scope & mounts on my 223 this weekend. I have tried many scopes on this rifle and just hoping I finally found the one I want to keep for more than a few months. Is there such thing as a perfect scope? LOL

6MT, I noticed you have the same RCBS case trimmer as me. Trim Pro? Have you had trouble with the locking collars that you use to adjust case trim length ? On mine the threads have become galled and are extremely hard to adjust. I have lubricared them and cleaned them but after a while, they become galled again. As far as I know other brands use the same system. Is there something better?

No. I've had no issues like that. I also lube mine and clean them periodically. You shouldn't over tighten them though.

6mmAI barrel is soaking in Wipeout right now, and loading another batch of 105's for it , and a bunch for the 6mmBR AO rifle which is going to be used by a new shooter in the Legion sponsored Northern Steel Match up here this weekend!

Been using the same press for the last 40 years, a Pacific 07 by Hornady.
Over the last couple of weeks noticed the ram was getting a little sticky on the upstroke, so took it apart, gave it a thorough cleaning, a bit of oil to the pivot points and the ram.
Smooth as silk. Good for another 40 years.

Bad news Medicine Hat gun show is cancelled.
Good news 6.5x284 Barrel (used Savage Model 12 BR) seems to have cleaned up pretty well, Hope she shoots, got all the components now, some were pretty hard to find.

Time to finish up a week’s project. Precision .308win target loads.
A close-up of the measuring…
And the final batch of 220 rounds.
I’m quite proud of this. I spent the past five nights sizing, prepping the necks, priming, charging, and seating. All processes within .0005”. And the powder measured to the granule.
Brass: Lapua
Primer: CCI BR-2
Powder: D4064ssc 45.0gr
Bullet: Berger 185gr Juggernaught
CBTO: 2.360”
Results: 2740fps ES=12 SD=5.9 (30 shot string)

6MT, have you noticed any difference in the A&D after going back to the original platen? I went back to my Area 419 cup and things seem to be stable still.

Yes. The Area419 tray was causing issues. The OEM tray is stable and no more issues. The Area419 cup, that’s another story. The OEM “shot glass” causes so many granules of extruded powder to bounce out, that I will probably never use that again. It’s very annoying especially when they land on the tray and affect your measurements.

I throw with a manual thrower off the scale so powder spilling isn’t an issue with mine, but the 419 cup is definitely an upgrade for sure.

Finished the 220 round batch of 6.5x47L too (the case to the right). Again with the same .0005”tolerances as the .308 above.

I use the Autothrower for extruded powders. For ball powders and small charge weights, I also use a manual thrower (the Lee Perfect to the left) for the bulk part and the AutoTrickler to finish.

Mostly because they got to be harder to find I bought a bunch years ago but I seem to run into eld's more than the Berger's, and I had a creedmoor that I was running 143elds in so I have a couple thousand on the shelf, if they don't work out I will look for more Berger's but I'm going to give the eld's an honest try
