Default Bear ID help

Hey, so for the first time my trail cam picked up a predator bigger than a coyote on some land I've been hunting for nearly 10 years. Right in front of my stand!

Bear for sure, however early morning gray image I cannot tell the color.

My opinion and my buddy's = grizzly

Your thoughts?

Thanks, this is concerning since we have horses and cattle year round out here. 3 little cubs and mom. I used to walk out of my stand after dark listening to coyotes howl knowing I've never seen any other predator.

This is less than an hour west of leduc.

What benefit would contacting fish and wildlife have? Would it solve the problem?

What’s the problem? Bears living in the woods doing what bears do? Have they attacked your live stock? Threatened them? Broke into your buildings? If not mere presence on the landscape doesn’t constitute an emergency sorry.

The best way to positively identify them is to examine their droppings.

Black near droppings will have berries, oats or ants in them.
Grizzly bear droppings will contain little bells and smell like pepper spray.

While we can't prove it officer, in may something spooked the horses through a fence and my dad lost a barrel horse that was big bucks. The horse was buried and they had to add more dirt as something tried digging it up. People constantly ride out here, the last thing anyone in my family wants is an emergency with a bear.

Like I said, in 10 years this is the first time I've seen bears on camera so no issues up to now but going forward there could be.

They are grizzlys

It’s a shame there isn’t a season to control some of these problem bears

An hour west of Leduc.. there are a number of grizzly bears in the area and have been for a long time, they are becoming more numerous in the past few years.

General consensus seems like grizzly. Still surprised to see them though people have said they've been out this way for a while. I guess my hunting paradise (mulie wt elk moose) has some unwelcomed visitors lol. Will have to pack a shotgun while I go out. If I find tracks I'll definitely post them as well as any other photos. I usually have twin moose calves and twin fawns, not triplet bears

The profile is all wrong for a Blackie.

I'd say Grizzly.

Looking at that cub it has a dished face black bears don’t have a dished face. Black bears don’t have a forehead like a grizzly

Perhaps the dead horse should have gone to the knacker man eh! Deeded land or crown lease? Like other have said why get so excited, they seem to be doing what bears do, and you would appear to be in or moved to bear country.

They are Grizzlies. Calling fish and wildlife will net you nothing.

Land is deeded

Only excited cause like I said, first time in 10 years out there I've seen a predator bigger than a coyote and grizzlies usually turn out to be real problems. We run steers from spring to fall and horses year round. If they were black bears it'd be an easier solution.
