Pike near Calgary
Anyone know of anywhere near Calgary that might have shore-access pike fishing available yet?
Or is it too early?
I’ve heard of pike from the Bow, but I only fish that up near Banff and lake Louise, I wouldn’t know where to start down there. I disc-golf regularly at Baker Park and I’ve often thought the river looked “fishy” around there-can anyone confirm?
Any and all suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

when looking for lakes nearby with specific fish i usually check anglers atlas, you click fish, then the type of fish, and it gives you a map you can look around with and see different places near you with that fish

Chestermere Lake
When my kids were little we used to catch them all the time , big ones too. I would imagine that Eagle lake down stream is probably good too.

I know this is a one off....and ya it was back in the year 1993....but I did catch a spring 22lb pike in Edworthy park. It would of been on the North side of the river around 500m or so east of the foot bridge...was casting for rainbow with a #2 Mepps comet and hooked that beast. I know there was a small eddie I was fishing, and had to chase him down stream another 50 or so meters to a deeper pool where I finally managed to get him close enough to grab on and wrestle him out onto the shore. Lol , had a lot of bystanders wondering WTF I was doing until they saw that fish. Anyway...I can confirm that at leat ONE really nice pike ventured into that area...who knows, maybe there may be another!?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I’m gonna try by the Stoney Trail bridge on the Bow.
Depending on how that goes-I may go search for some open water in the Glenmore Resevoir-but I’m doubtful.

Thank you. You’re absolutely correct. Looks like it is open only May1-Oct31. I received a few PMs and in one or two, Glenmore was mentioned.

I you are going anywhere other than the Bow you are going to need to find a body of water that is open year round. These are mainly unlisted lakes. There are a few in the Calgary area, but most are in the southern part of the Province so you will need to drive a bit.

the bow is kind of your only option right now, focus on the back waters anywhere in town. it's got a pretty fair amount of pike that always make me think I've hooked a mega trout until I see it
May 8th most of the PP1 area pike lakes open. Almost all of them have pike that are in the shallows in the spring

Check Dalemead Lake off of 22x. As far as I know it’s open all year but double check that. I have no idea if the ice is gone but if you wanna do me a solid and go check it this week that’d be nice. If you google maps it, there’s a spot east on the lake that connects to a canal. There’s a small dam or something that churns the water so that part should be nice and melted im guessing.

Is Dalmead Reservoir not considered an unlisted lake or body of water, hence if it's not listed it's under the general regs. General regs for such bodies of water's say it's open all year round for pike

But please correct me if I'm wrong as my 14 and 16 year old boys fish there quite a bit! And this is how I've always treated this body of water.

While we're on the topic of dalemead, I'm thinking about making a short drive over there on Friday. Anyone know if the ice has melted around the shore?
